Here it goes.....

Cylinders already cut so will stay with the .030 over bore. I am ok with that. Is there an expression out there about "beware of bargains"... Found a crack in the bellhousing I just purchased at one of the starter mount bolt holes. Being repaired now but with repair total cost will not be the bargain I had anticipated. Engine rebuilder is going to reface the flywheel for free so that is not a big deal. Decided to go with new clutch an pressure plate as there is some strange wear on the parts I picked up. Still saved money according to ebay pricing, but not as much as hoped.

On another issue, I am trying to determine how much further back the T5 shifter will locate from the original position of the 4 cylinder 5 speed now in the truck. I have seen the articles on adapting the S10 tail shaft to make it fit the original hole, but not sure I want to go in this direction. I can live with a new location, but just want to get an idea about how far back it will go. If anyone out there can answer this for me I would appreciate it.

Here is the shifter location. Mustang mounts, T5. The original hole has already been filled, but you can see the patch.

That location looks pretty doable to me. Looks like a mustang shift with a little extra contour to it?? I have the 60/40 seat, but think this will work.

My sift lever is the Mustang handle, but I straightened it.

Tried the Pro5.0 lever backwards when I swapped the shifter, but I prefer my straight one.

On another topic, will a 2.3 slip yoke fit on the tailshaft of a T5 transmission. I guess I could check this myself, but I am still using the truck as my dd.

Should fit with no problem. I used my stock yoke, then a 2008 yoke.

4r70w 5.0 automatics may use a different yoke.

Another question for you. Just got my bellhousing back from welder to fix the crack I mentioned earlier. I laid the spacer plate that came with my explorer engine over the top of it and it does not have the same pattern. Looks as if the explorer had the starter extended out further than the mustand bellhousing will allow. I do have a mustang flywheel, 157tooth 50 oz. so I know that is correct. Also have the correct bellhousing as I verified the numbers on it. (also transmission bolt pattern is the same. I am guessing I need another spacer plate for the mustang bell and transmission to work... Mmmmm, intereesting. Anyone run into this?

That's because the spacer is different for auto and manual trans, the auto mounts the starter in a different position. You can modify the holes to match your belhousing, my bro did the same thing for his 5.0 rx7.

Well the big differerence is that the Explorer used the 164T flexplate while the T-5 uses the 157T flexplate/flywheel. That moves the starter out further like you found. They are available, just dont have a spare! Couple of the Explorere ones.

Think i might be getting the hang of adding pictures.

You can never have to many pictures. We are all looking forward to many more on this thread/project. I am currently working on a 98 T-5 5.0 project as well. Subscribing.

New spacer plate coming-education there! Got into the wiring harness last night-what a hoot. Spent about 5 hours just cleaning it and inspecting the connectors. All in all, in pretty good shape. Owner before me had jumpered a wire off pin 42, (tach) and just had a small wire leading to nowhere. I guess he had an external tach and this is the way he got a signal?? Still need the transmission side of the harness if anyone has one laying around...

What harness are you using? Mustang or Explorer? Or are you talking about the Ranger connector?

On a Mustang harness, pin 42 is an injector, people splice into these to wire an alarm often.

The only thing you need for a trans harness is two wires for the reverse lights, and two for the VSS. You can use the VSS connector from the Ex donor if you have it, or the one straight from your Ranger.
On my first harness I made, I simply didn't remove the Ranger trans harness.

Any Mustang trans wiring is part of the car/body harness.
