i have just acquired a 1991 ranger 4x4 longbed. it has a 4.0, auto, and 3.73 gears. i am going to use this truck as a hunting/farm truck and i want to add a set of 31x10.5's. the truck will be used 99% off road and there will be quite a bit of mud. no rock crawling. with my stated uses what would be the best form of lift to use to clear 31's. i have seen 2" leveling kits that say they will clear 31's and i have seen 4" lift kits that say max tire size 31's. that seems like a big difference considering the 2" difference between the lifts. anyway i am just looking for some advice. thanks in advance.

I have a buddy with a 91, he has a 2 inch lift and fits 32x11.5's....so i think you'd be fine with a 2 inch lift

yes you should be able to just go 2" to fit 31's....

just don't use the poly coil spacers...they will not last....

just do the stacked washers and you will be good to go on the front....

for the rear use Explorer springs from a 4 door and if need be the "belltech's" which are Chevy lowering shackles you can use as lift shackles on a Ranger...

you can clear 31's stock...

I've been running 31's on my stock '90 for 4 years, previous owner of the chassis had them on a long time before that...

they WILL rub on the radius arms and front sway bar, but ignore it... if you take the front sway bar off (suggested) wheeling hard you will rub the top of the front fenders, might be worse with a D35 up front since it's wider... leveling coils should take care of that though

I have an 83 and I put 31's on,but I put F150 springs in too. Mine still scrub the fender just a little when I back up and turn sharp. No biggie.

yeah, and second gen's have bigger openings around the front fenders

thanks for the replies. i think i'll go for the 2" coils in the front. i have read some and seen where when lifted the fronts need ball joint alignment cams. will i need to purchase these when using a 2" lift coil? what all will i need to do this right? thanks again

or you could do a body lift and not have to worry about any alignment issues.

X2

after doing a 4 inch lift then a 6 inch lift and a 3 inch body lift with a 3 inch mechanical lift, i would suggest looking into a body lift. it's quite inexpensive, and easy to do, and the benefits are incredible
i would also suggest buying body mounts if you do this. you will have them out/apart and possibly destroyed, so it's a perfect time to replace them and they make a big difference.

just do some coils up front, shouldnt need alignment bushings

or you could do a body lift and not have to worry about any alignment issues.

this is true but this truck sits lower in the front and i want to level it out. the body lift would not help this.

thanks for all of the replies. what is a good source for lift coils?

I just did coils on my 94 and it needed bushings FYI
and the rangerstation store has skyjacker coils for $130. I got mine at a local 4x4 shop for $150 shipped

ok now if i use washers to level the front will this be enough to clear the 31's?
