help planning my ranger please. low power bad mpg.

But when I clicked the button I heard it make click light came on hit it again heard the noise light went out, but its worth checking

They also put the rear tires on the rolling road at the smog shop and it didn't pull itself off the ramp so I don't think it is stuck

My 93 only gets 13 mpg and its a 3.0 v6

Go to an area that you need 4wd and see if the front tires are spinning in 4wd

Better then 7 haha. My biggest concern is having to be floored to do anything over 35. Its like 0-60 never. I don't expect a rocketship at all. But I'd expect a normal driver.

The hubs maybe locked in that will cause poor mpg and low acceleration

Look at the throttle body and see if the butterfly valve opens at full throttle

The TPS will also cause bad acceleration

the vacuum hose is connected directly to the fuel pressure regulator. the FPR is right on the fuel rail on the intake. if you pull the hose off the FPR and gas comes out of it, the FPR is shot internally.

Something else to consider, if everything is checking out, something might be dragging or binding on the brakes or tires...

Check to make sure that the wheels spin freely when the truck is jacked up.

it is not the transfer case.... if it was in 4 lo you would know it as you would have some pretty serious rpms. If you want to put your mind at ease, unbolt the shift motor (4 bolts If I recall, real easy to do) and see what it is set at. it will be noted on the shift motor what position is 2 hi.

make sure your bearings aren't binding on the front wheels.

Good luck!

I'll check for binding this afternoon. I'll put it on a lift at the base hobby shop and give them all a spin. I think that's a good place to look at as everything else should technically throw a code

It is also possible I don't have the gears I think I do. When I shift to 5th its only at like 1500 rpms 4th at 65 floored is 2800 or so

Oh, yeah, brake drag can really do it to both your gas mileage and power...front lines may be causing them to stay on just enough to drag...best way I've found to check that is to simply feel the rims to see how hot they are after a bit of a run...

And...I did overlook "The zip tie throttle cable mod"...which takes the slack out of the throttle so there is no delay...no hesitation...it is in the Tech Library section...

Well I think I solved it. Fuel pressure came out at 33 idle and key off. 42 psi with for vacuum unhooked. Speedo is off by about 5 and I got 14 mog according to my math? Still not a whole shit load of power but I think its got to do with a few reasons. One I just came from riding a motorcycle. My bronco is a v8 with 4:10 gears and every other truck I've owned or driven is a v8 or diesel. So maybe my expectations were a little high for the v6. I think a good tune up and larger gears will have me right as rain. I made the cardinal mistake. Kiss keep is simple stupid. I went way overboard hunting for an issue that was never there

Glad you got it figured out. 3:73's are a bit small for larger tires. I have 31" tires and 3:73s from the factory, and I average about 15-16 mpg, and have got 20mpg on the highway. If I had the $$$ I would throw some 4:10's in mine.

Happened again damnit and I got a ticket on base for obstructing traffic. Started in about 5 minutes fuel pressure is 33 at idle and key on 42 psi with vacuum unhooked. What gives? Still no codes and ran fine right after
