in the process of putting my tranny in and i got it basically almost in and theres a problem. its an automatic a4ld goion into a ranger i bought it from a junkyard and it came from a 89 bronco 2. same thing. well the cable that runs from the column shifter that runs to the side of the tranny which switches gears is wrong or something, on my old tranny the little bar that moves back and forth switching gears was on the bottom, well on this one its on the top. and the cable wont mount to it right.the bar is standing up on this one and was facing down towards the ground on my other one.

hard to explain without pics but i hope u get the point and help me.

here is an example that little lever on my old one was down and the new one is up. so therefor the cable from the column hifter wont mount right

Many of these shift levers have a square or oblong center hole so they slide onto the actuating shaft and are secured with a nut. If this is the case you may be able to take the lever off and simply flip it so it faces down.

My replacement trans on my 89 Ranger was also marked as being from a Bronco and it had the lever pointing down. Hope this tip works for you. :icon_cheers:

ya i talked to he guy i bought it from hes gonna fix it what they do is they cut the lever and turn it the other way and weld it. he said its way too hard to fix internally. will cost me 30 bucks says he does it all the time at his shop. but when i want to switch gears until then i have to get out and move it by hand underneath.
