Help.... keep burning up factory fog/driving light switches

P.S. The indicator in the switch won't light up until you have the relay installed and power connected to it.

P.P.S. The instructions I gave you allow you to turn the lights on any time, even if the truck is off.

If you want to require the key to be on, in order to have your lights on, you need to hook terminal #86 to a switched source of power, instead of straight to the battery.

The advice Spott is givin you is good info, here's a diagram that I used on my 93 as I wanted my fogs to be useable at anytime:

Fog light switch wiring diagram

so there it is that is what i been doing wrong

the out source to lights needs to feed back into switch and yes the the 86 is going to be wired off a ignition on circuit

and 85 is is basically the one i have been frying switches with UGH

thanks for the GREAT help

wont be able to get it done today looks like Sunday is going to be my rewiring day

Glad to help.

Just make sure that you're using some good method for making the connections; merely twisting the wires together is a bad plan. Crimp-splices or soldering are both good options.

all connections are soldered and heat shrunk, also all connections are water proofed,

little more time and money but no worries done the road.......

This group is great, had some issues awhile back got no responses, almost gave up on it here

maybe you guys could help me with that too lol

its my cruise control, just up and stopped working and yes mine is one of the many that they never wired in for the speed control light to operate, i have got to run a wire for that,

no fuse blown no wires cut and sensors replaced, (they did not have issues just cheap enough to replace) also replaced cruise control cut off switch and brake under hood, and brake light switch at peddle??

and the relay

any ways

Thanks for the help

""""UPDATE""""

Got my cruise issue repaired,
found out that speed control cutoff switch was issue (the recall fird issue)

here is what I found

part number# Motorcraft SW6350
which says fits and works for the 1995 ford ranger 4.0 engine is "INCORRECT"
(after replacing this part three times)

part number# Motorcraft SW-6349 which says fits and works for the 1995 ford ranger is "CORRECT"
(after replacing this with CORRECT part one time)

SHOTGUN $ wasted to find this out

Cruise is working perfectly AGAIN after 2 years .......

hopes this helps someone else here searching for speed control (cruise control) issues

Cruise control? Aside from what you mentioned, you need a good signal from the VSS and/or ABS (I believe the VSS also drives the speedo in your truck, so it's probably OK), the servo needs to be good (either no leaks and good solenoid valves with a vacuum servo, or no bad motor for an electric servo), you need feedback from the servo position sensor, a clutch/tranny switch, and the little processor module needs to be working right.

That last one is the killer, as you need a couple power supplies, a signal generator, and an oscilloscope to bench test it. Mostly you just verify that everything else is good and, by process of elimination, finally determine that it MUST be the module.

It's gonna be hard to diagnose and repair that one remotely, sorry.
