I have a 1998 3.0 xlt 4x4. Its has the 4r44e. Have had it since new. Currently it has 230k miles. Transmission has always been serviced and the separator plate gaskets were replaced within the last five years. Transmission fluid looks and smells great. Recently the truck would intermittently shift early. Within the past few weeks it now almost always shifts early. It will shift into 3rd gear by 25mph. If im harder on the throttle it shifts more normal. The shifts themselves are fine. No flaring and the lockup seems ok. Although when im driving steady at say 60mph on flat ground if i let off the gas a little the torque converter unlocks then if i give it a little gas it re locks. It does that a lot and its not normal. I think the transmission is mechanically sound but its some input to the ecm that is telling the transmission to shift incorrectly. Is the problem is intermittent it doesnt seem like a hard part issue. What could cause these transmissions to shift early?
