Help a Dad help his Son

Bcost882,

My son's truck has an auto trans. Your truck looks good by the way. Do the spindles make the front track wider? All the ones I've seen with the spindle upgrade look like they are wider in the front than a stock truck. Or is that just an optical allusion?

yes it does make the track a bit wider but as you can see the tread comes out maybe .5in past the fender so stock 4x4 flares will take care of that. since he has an auto you will definatly want to regear the autos don't stand up too well to bein worked super hard but 4.10s or 4.30s would be good to get it back up to the right performance after the 31s.

I'm also in on the black wheels...If 31's would be even close to rubbing, I put some 30/9.50 Hankook M/T's on one of my Rangers and it looked mean and there was TONS of room to play around with no lift...You can get 5 of these (matching spare) in the ball park of $400-$500...Just my .02...Good luck...

not even that much it is like 65-70 bucks for procomp steelies

daniel3507,

Checked out your truck and it has the look my son is going for. Are those really 31s in the pic? How did you level yours? I have a friend that works at the Ford dealership and he is my go to guy if I need any work done i.e. 4.10/4.30 gears

Yeah those are 31's in the pic. That pic was taken right after i put them on. I used a coil spring spacer to level mine but I ordered new lift coil springs so i can get rid of the spacer and still have it leveled. My stock coils are worn out and sagging so i decided to just replace them with lift springs. I will post up new pics in my build thread after i replace the springs and front shocks this week. With 4.10 gears i didnt notice any difference in performance with the bigger tires. I had 3.08 gears keeping stock gearing just wasnt an option for me.

Hell, Just trim the fenders add some Bushwacker flares and fit those 31's right on there, and black rims will look really bitching!!!!!! He will love the looks!!

Based on the feedback I've received the best thing for us to do is install 2" lift/leveling coils and slap on the 31s, have a front end alignment and finally install either 4.10 or 4.30 gears.....it all sounds so simple now. :shok:

Hey at least you have a plan now. That can sometimes be the hardest part of it all.

Absolutely, and I appreciate your help.

I'll spend the next few weeks shopping prices and lining up parts. I'll probably install the gears first and drive it a few days to make sure they are set up properly, purchase the springs and wheels, install the springs and drop it off to have the wheels/tires put on and the alignment. There's a good chance I will buy the tires and have them put on at on place and have the alignment done someplace else. That's my plan......for now at least.:icon_thumby:
