HELP 2.9 Running rich ?????????????

There should be an Orange wire from the wire harness near the distributor that gets grounded to the rear of the engine on the passenger side. If you lose ground on that wire, the engine will run very rich.

Does that Orange wire apply to a 1986 Bronco II 2.9??

Chaz.

Is the orange wire the signal (varying voltage) wire from the oxygen sensor back to the computer?

Where does the orange wire origionate from and where on the passenger side rear of the engine does it ground? I'm running rich as well and could not find an orange wire grounded to save my life!

it should come out of the same lume as th o2 sensor and have an eylet that bolts to th pass. side head between the head and firewall I found it easier to reach from underneath

Thanks I'll have to check that out. Good thing the one orange wire that goes to the 02 was connected to that otherwise I might confuse the two lol.

Will be amazing if I make #3 that this wire fixes!

Missing...

I'm not finding that orange wire anywhere. Not in the loom of the O2 Sensor, not on the back of the motor, and verified by looking up from the bottom.

It would really help to know where it origionates from at the beginning so I can trace it all the way to where it isn't going lol

The only orange wire in that loom is the one for the 02 Sensor. I checked all the connectors in the area and could not find another orange wire. Would it be the same color on the 90/91? The wiring harness came out of a 90 Bronco II.

i got the same problem with running rich. ill check that in the morning. but i got a smooth idle the whole time no roughness unless i dont release the clutch good.

I also have the "running rich with black smoke" problem on my 87 Ranger.

Went out to look for the orange wire with a flashlight and found it right where you said, but it is oily where it grounds from a leaky valve cover gasket. (Might be effecting the grounding) Going to clean up the area and see what I can see in the daylight.

hope it works out for ya'll these trucks are very touchy about ground wires - gotta have 'em

I hate chasing wires! :annoyed:

I just picked up a 86 2.9 cheap and the owner said it is filling up the cylinders with gas and he had to take the plugs out and it shot alot of gas out one. I haven't really made it to messing with it but i did notice a wire just hanging there and it is the orange wire you all are talking about. Do you think this would cause the problem with that much gas? also can i just gound it any where or does it have to be that same spot.

The motor has quite a bit of fuel in the oil but still turns over (only did it with a ratchet on the crank cus i didn't want to ruin the motor) should i just drain the oil and change filter and add new oil and start up or is there somthing else i should do to ensure i don't get a really dry start from all the gas going thourgh the motor?

Thanks

Change the oil first!

Had to do the same thing....

Well i changed the oil, replaced the plugs, then grounded the orange wire and tried and it started then quit. (seems gounding the orange wire took care of getting to much fuel cause the oil level is staying the same) but now i am not getting enough fuel cause it will run as long as i am spraying starting fluid.

History
The owner before me removed the rear tank and selector valve. replaced the front tank and ran new fuel lines then replaced the Fuel pressure Regulater. before haveing the above problem

Now i unhooked the vacum hose at the rear of the FPR and as i crank the motor over it flows fuel out of the vacum line. so i assume that the fpr is bad

Also which Fuel line is the Pressure and which is the return line going to the Fpr? i am wondering if they may have the lines switched around.

Sorry for the long message just wanted to be as clear about it as i could

can any one help me out?
