Just picked up a 1994 Ford Ranger 4X4. It's in great shape. It was very well taken care of and only has minor surface rust. No rot at all which is awesome considering how old it is and always being a Northern PA truck. It's got the 2.3L 5spd and push button 4wd. It's my first ranger and I'm pretty happy with it. Not much power but that's to be expected. As for my plans for it I'm not sure yet. We have 3 other vehicles and we wanted a pickup to haul things around. I'm building a 27 Ford street rod over the winter and the wife didn't want me taking the engine in the back of her SUV. LOL!:icon_rofl: After the car is done I hope to start on the Ranger. I have a complete drive train, computer, harness out of a 90 Mustang GT that would look real good in the Ranger!!!:icon_hornsup: Here's a picture of the Ranger.

Welcome to TRS Mike!

Those 4 x 4 4 bangers are rare so I hope you're transplanting another 4x4...if there isn't enough power you can always use the Turbo version of the motor...plenty of power there...

I'm looking for an ext cab version of that truck to turbo charge...not in any rush though...it took me five years to build this one...

I also thought about doing a 2.3 turbo. Aren't the 80's Thundebird Super coupes powered by the 2.3 turbo's? I know where there is a pretty rotted 88 Tbird SC. It still runs and drives and I don't believe it has alot of miles on it. Would that work in my ranger? With the 2.3L Turbo how would that work in a 4X4 where you would want low end torque?

yes, it would work...it is the engine most sought after for the Ranger for HP boost...and the 5.0, but who needs all those extra pistons and stuff...
