I just got (free) a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2.5L manual transmission with 212,xxx miles; needs a bit of handy work, but it runs fine, for the most part. I have very little knowledge about automotive mechanics, but I am determined that fixing this truck up will teach me a new and very useful skill set. 
And to everyone's future feedback and advice (and putting up with my automotive ignorance), I truly appreciate it.
