i have removed the heater core from my trail only rig. i also run a radiator in the rear(if that matters). my question is, should i loop the heater core hoses, or plug them? motor is a 93 4.0v6 out of a explorer. my prefrence is to plug them to clean up the engine compartment.

I`m thinking you should loop it so it has good circulation through the water pump when the thermostat is closed. Just a thought

You need to loop them, it's the only route the pump has to circulate water when the thermostat is closed.

Yep. Loop them around. Never just block off coolant. It works sometimes but why risk it?

You not winter trail ride? You don't want heat?

You could plug them, and it would probably be ok for about 5 minutes until some pressure builds up and pops the caps.

I think the actual problem is that without any flow you would get pump cavitation. The water pump wouldn't last long.

that is what i was afraid of. i was unsure of how the flow was routed on the 4.0. i didn't realize that this motor used the heater lines as the by-pass for the thermostat.
