has anybody ever tried or put on heated mirrors onto a 84 ranger? i have searched almost everywhere but came up empty. maybe somebody out there has put on a used heated mirror from some other application. maybe somebody knows where i can find the heating pad to which i can apply to a new mirror. thanks for any input.

the heater is usually built into the mirror glass. you cant just peel it off and stick it to the back of a different mirror.

maybe you could stock some defroster strips on the face of it :D

True...
Yup, I did it.
I took a spare head that needed new glass.
I was lucky enough to get the heat grid from a truck
mirror that was damaged. Forget how I attached the grid to
the back of the new glass.
Ran the wires along the mirror bracket, through a grommetted
hole in the door, then to the inside much like they did
with the old speaker door wiring.
Then I put an end on that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
If you need it, plug it in.
And it works. Where I park it, it is usually right next to
a big pile of snow and tough to get at.
I plug it in and VIOLA, heat - so scrapping?
Sleepy.

thanks for the reply. do you suppose you can remember which mirror the pad came from? (like explorer or f-150) i was kind of hoping that somebody got one from a continental, cadilac, taurus etc and bolted it on and made it look good. i guess i will make me a template as to the way the curves in the door are and try to match it with another donor.

True...
If I remember correctly, (yeah, right - good luck),
I did try one from a Taurus. How I got one from a
Taurus is another story. Something about me and
medication, and backing up, and a fence post, etc.
Anyway, I think I tried it but had trouble getting it
off the glass. The one I ended up using was
salvaged from a commercial 'West Coast' type
that was damaged. Keep trying - you'll get there.

i called my favorite glass shop back where i came from, and they found me what i was looking for. a heated glass grid. i ordered them for both of my original mirrors and i will not be sacrificing my mirrors. priced right to,$14 each. just peel and stick, run some wires thru the doors and to a switch. can't wait to get them, happier than chit!
