okay this is whats up, since my ranger is a pain to get the DRL's to stay off i come up with a method (canadian truck) ive located the left and right low beam headlight fuse's in the smart junction box what i want to do is find the wire colors that i need to cut so i can run a switch from them to turn them on/off when i want. does anyone know the wire colors that i need to look for? im pretty sure i've found the connector which unplugged turns them off. i cut and repaired a few wires already and i don't want to go further unless i know for sure ... if you can help me please and thank you

:dunno:

serious anyone have a headlight schematic online i could use ?

The answer to your quandary lies in the US models. They have a "bypass" that plugs in to where the DRL would be eliminating it. Find a US one at the wreckers and grab it. That will solve the problem without screwing in the electrical. If you unplug it, your high beam indicator will become inoperable along with a few other things too... if I'm not mistaken.

thanks ill figure it out :) and if i do i will post.. but finding a us truck will prob not be easy since i am in canada

easiest thing is to put a switch to short the parking brake switch, that puts them out.

You know if it illegal to disable them right?

whats the big deal of DRL's anyway? :dunno:

i dont see how it bothers to have em on at day time. its not like ur burning more gas or something like that

I can think of a couple of reasons to turn them off. They are anoying to other guys if you are off road, especially on tight trails, they also make video taping more difficult. When it's minus fourty, it's difficult enough to get the truck started without anything unnecessary pulling the battery further down.

But it also makes you much more visable when you are driving on the street.

I always run mine when I am going somewhere long distance. I wouldn't mind it if they were always on really.

My dad's F-250 has them, they kick off when you crank the engine.

I prefer people who have them, because they typically are the idiots who don't turn their headlights on at dusk, and they're hard to see when you're driving west.

IF there is any safety advantage to DRL's NO government or Insurance company research
has rproven it.

EARLY studies indicated there might be a benefit.

The problem was that once most (or all) vehicles had them any positive benefit disappeard
because the human brain filters out things that "look the same"

It was a great idea... but one that has repeatedly been proven to not work...

Anothger similar shceme was the one tried in France, where all headlights were gradually made Yellow
(like yellow foglamps) yeah the first vehicles that had them really stood out
(like Satan himself sodomizing the Pope on the balcony of the Vatican during the
annual Easter blessing... do you think people in St Peter's Square would notice?)
but once all vehicles had them they became... well... "the same"

WTF is next, flashing red and blue lights on ALL vehicles to make them stand out more?

It's just one of a great many ideas that seemed good at first look but were proven to
be more than just a little flawed in the real world.

Well for me personally when stuff glows or lights up, it stands out against a background that doesn't.

I don't see what the difference is if one car has headlights on or 50 million. People won't say "meh, its just another car, I am going to pull out in front of it"

Yet people do EXACTLY that every day

lights or not.

The real root cause is that people "don't see", because they don't ****ing LOOK.

I've hit people who didn't look before pulling out in front of me.

Usually some old **** who shouldn't be driving at all, because they can't see their own hood ornament let alone street signs or other vehicles.

Or a drunk.

Protecting stupid people from their own stupidity is a waste of time because all such efforts are doomed to failure....

the only effective protection for the rest of us from them is to eliminate them once they are positively identified.

I am not protecting stupid people from anything, I am protecting myself from stupid people.

Sorry about that. I just had to be a smart ass there.
