Headlight adjustment

Hi gang. Have a further question to this post.

I've used the adjuster screw all the way and beams are still too low. I replaced the rear springs and the truck sits a little high in back so the beams still point at the gophers now. (No - the answer isn't bigger springs on the front)

Do the screws in back of the light frame allow for more adjustment of the lamp? Has anyone else run into this?

I'm not so familair with the "square" rangers but if it's like the 1993-1997 ones, there are 3 mounts per light, two of which are adjustable. One is on an edge, one is on a corner; you adjust the corner one first (as it moves in both the x and y axis diagonally) and once your up/down is set, you adjust the edge mount to get the left-right set (as the corner also changed the left-right).

If you're out of adjustment, either you are riding really, really high in the back (sorry, you'll have to fab something to make it work in that case) or your lights are not mounted right... Or you're not adjusting the lights correctly. Unless you want to blind people (if so, :thefinger:), on the low beams, they should be low, IIRC 4" below level @25' away.

I have a 92 Ranger and I have replaced the headlights. Those shafts with the hex cut on the end are the only adjustment. The long 1 is for up and down and the short 1 is for left to right. I used a small driver I had in a jewelers set that I have. I also have noticed that the light bulb will affect the beam and makes it hard to adjust . I got some of those xenon bulbs from china and they were bright but there was basically no beam. I don't know the technical stuff but the different lines in the clear housing make the beam shine wider and not out. I went back to the regular bulbs but I got some that are 80/100 watts. Still hard to get adjusted but they are better.

The guy that has the head lights pointing at the ground I would check the mounting they are plastic and might be broken.

This is just a square sealed beam? Lucky duck. The main take away point from the pics is that the adjusters are probably frozen. Get a can of rustbuster, not WD 40, suirt liberally on all screws before trying them. On the Grand Wags there was a trim ring to remove that holds the headlight in place. with that off. you should be seeing the screws :D
