Head gasket problem

I use Fel Pro gaskets use the MLS there blue and can make up for the imperfectons in the head and block.

What is the best brand of head gasket for a 4.0 ???

any that is properly installed?? Never had a problem yet with fel-pro ....

I would agree, been using Fel-pro for many years, no complaints

1990-2000 Rangers/B4000s used the 4.0l OHV engine

4.0l OHV will crack heads if overheated, just one time
Be sure to have heads tested and surfaced at machine shop before installing new head gaskets or you will be wasting money

Cracks can look like this: https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?attachments/img_1988-1-jpg.50931/
Between valve seats, can be hard to see, or obvious, like this one: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/attachments/4832374149_7a6dddcfef_b-jpg.384895/

Also need to use new head bolts each time you do the heads on 4.0l OHV, they are TTY and can't/shouldn't be reused

many times i agree with you.... however, not all heads need to be resurfaced. extra money tossed to something that doesn't need to be done. no reason given by OP to if even the gaskets blown, or any other problem occurred. I read this as a basic question of ... what do you recommend.

if a person is installing new gaskets, i will give it to them that they will fine tooth the heads themselves and check for problems.

as for head bolts ... i reuse all them and to this day have never had any failures .... (clean them and the bolt holes)

just my $0.02 ...

(do i hit post reply) ?? yep

Again. . . Fel-Pro! This is what happened when my SOHC overheated:

All six cylinders!
