has any body put a 3.0 in a 2.0

what do i need to put a 3.0 in my 87 ranger 2.0? do i need a donor truck? and do i need a new trans?

ALOT of work... If you're going through that much work why pick the 3.0L? I'd just go for a carb 5.0L swap... Easiest one to do... If you really want to try something hard the 4.0L is lightyears better than the 3.0L...

i want a 302 but the mpg is way bad i thought that the 3.0 might be alittle bit better on gas...........long term goal for my truck is a mild prerunner....... when i first got the truck i wanted to make a hotrod...... but i got to play in the mud for the first time in my own truck and i liked ALOT!!! iv'e seen some with 302s and a few with 3.0 turbo'd i didn't know what would be easier.

You could go with a 2.3 which is a significant jump in horsepower... Honestly, a 302 won't get terrible fuel mileage... You could easily get 16-18 combined no problem... My V8 Explorer can get 20-22 mpg highway no problem... 16-18 city...

As long as it's from a Ranger or Mustang it will...only difference is between automatic and manual transmissions...if you're going to go with a different tranny just make sure you get all the parts needed...(and you may need a new rad if you go manual to automatic)...

If you can find a vehicle with a good motor and transmission grab it...

The good news is that if you put in a 2.3 and use a carb, the wiring for the 2.0 works...as mine did...if you're missing wiring from the 2.0 then you can choose what way you want to go...as in different engine and whether you want to go fuel injected or not...

Easiest is to simply swap in a 2.3 (but it seems as if your cat or exhaust was causing your power loss...so if it's working...do you really want to take the next step?)

As I mentioned before, I started out small and decided to change things...but it has been an expensive endeavor simply because I had some things rebuilt, had to mix and match parts and ran into quite a few things that I didn't count on...but it's been fun!
