How do I wipe a hard drive?

That depends greatly on what operating system is already on it.

Are you upgrading to 7 or something?

Easiest way is to put a Windows install disc in, boot from that, and use the format utility.

Go to start and in the run command type CMD then type format ?:\ ?= drive letter. or go to my computer right click drive you want to format then click format.. other option you will need to boot to a disk like adsm 08 suggest...

My operating system is jacked up. I can not load windows is there any way to do it without using windows?

I would try a repair install from the disk. I would not other trying to format from the command prompt in Windows anyway. It seems to not like trying to format a mounted drive.

Well if you don't have a disk how were you planning on using the computer after you wipe the drive?

Drives are cheap now. Just put a hammer through it and buy a new disk, save yourself a lot of trouble.

Drives are not cheap at the moment and there's never a purpose to wasting anything pointlessly.

Ok I found the recovery disk and recovered it to it's out of the box settings. I have been trying to download updates but this is the error i keep getting; Error number: 0x80244019

What can I do?
