ok guys im thinkin i may have ether a bad thermostat, fan,ect or....a blown head gasket:bawling:

went to work today and noticed the truck was hotter then normal and the temp was climbing fast and neared the top of the end of the "normal" range had i driven any farther or ideled longer in the lot it would have overheated. when i shut it off it was loudly bubbling and burbling.

when it cooled down i looked and after i wiped the dust off the recovery tank noticed it was empty then opened the rad and couldnt see any fluid near the neck as it was angled and i couldnt see down it.

after work i picked up 2 gals of the 50/50 premix coolent and filled the rad up til it started burping into the hose leading to the coolent tank then filled that up to the cold fill line.

drove home it stayed in the typical spot then slowly climbed up higher and when i stopped at home and let it idel a bit it was up toward the line ending the "normal" range. i looked at the recovery tank and it was bubbling up from the hose spot where it goes in.

i shut the truck off and it started bubbaling and burbaling again and contined to bubble in the recovery tank.

i looked on the web and saw it could mean a blown head gasket:shok:

i hope you guys can help me:pray:

is there any coolant in your oil?

i looked at it after checking at work it was black il go down and check now.

After you check that, look for leaks. When it ran low earlier you let air into the system, so bubbles could have just been air bleeding out. You don't smell anything sweet in the cab do you?

hey get a pressure test and test the system and then check your oil also to see if it go water in it and check your stat and see if its stuck open and like the one said when u filled it back up you may got a air pocket but I check the stat n pressure test the system first dad

ok guys went down there. checked the oil: dipsticks good oils black and smells like it should
checked tranny: fuid there is good. the recovery tank is now empty.

my plan was to check the fuilds and start it up and work out possible air and see if there still was bubbles in the tank.

BUT my truck would not start.....

the starter just made a humming noise and did not engage after it had made a bit of a grinding noise so i though the bolts loosed up and went to check them and there was no slop in the starter and the power wire was good and tight. but it just hums away.

to make it worse some work personal related stuff just ****ed me and my gf over...so now trying to fix it tomarrow is going to be much more a pain in the ****ing ass becasue our supervisers a godamn uslesss dick that is a waste of life i would not save from burning alive,,,,

bendix is busted, you need a new starter.

could it also be a flat spot on the flywheel?

i'd bet on the bendix as well for the starter. as for the coolant, if nothing is leaking out underneath, i'd be inclined to think it was the thermostat. that's the easiest and cheapest to fix. after that, double check your heater core as in nothing leaking into the cab. last would be the water pump. beyond those things, that's about all there is to your cooling system. good luck!

almost forgot the most obvious... check your radiator cap to make sure it is functioning correctly at the right temp.

+1 on the cap. An old cap will release at lower pressures, letting it boil off without you realizing it or noticing the steam.

A new cap is like $13, an overheat and cooked engine is a lot more.

Also, pull your plugs, look for one that has been steam-cleaned.

Hopefully the engine didn't overheat and stick.

Hopefully the engine didn't overheat and stick.

if so is there any way to unstick it?

im going to buy a cap and check the plugs and pull off the starter an bring it back to napa as i still have the recite and its brand new.

well guys i caint get a starter until Tuesday as thats the soonest my napa can get one. everyone iv talked to is telling me iv got a blown head gasket...frick.

sooo anybody got a 302 laying around?

I have 2. One is spoken for, the other is in pieces, the crank is junk (dad laid it on it's side to keep it from falling) and it needs about $1500 in machine shop work, new pistons, rings, bearings... basically a master rebuild kit.

But you can have that one if you want it. You either gotta come get it or have it shipped though.
