alright..i have a 2.3L with a CAI setup and 2.5" exhaust with a Flowmaster Super 44 Series muffler. It gurgles like CRAZY when its cold (while engine braking) but then the gurgling doesn't exist after 5 min of driving (except in 1st gear engine braking). I love this gurgling and my ? is....

what causes this?
how can i keep this?

thanks for insight in advance

A cold engine with a cold exhaust will always talk more than one that is warmed up.

It's the PCM enriching the fuel mixture, (increased injector pulse duration) spark timing and EGR control during cold start / open loop operation.

You'd get crappy mpg driving in that mode all the time.

You could "get there" by adding resistance to the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor, LG/R and GY/R wires). I have no idea how much resistance you should add (preferably with a switch, not all the time!) but you can get some idea by measuring the ECT with the engine cold and mimic that amount of ohms.

Again, your MPG will suffer considerably, you may foul your O2 sensor (pure speculation on my part) and plug your catalytic converter from excess raw fuel. I can imagine it building up carbon deposits too.

Sounds potentially expensive just to enjoy a little burbling...........your call.

right on thanks for the insight..i am going to enjoy it when its cold cuz i can't afford to mess it up lol..but hey, now i am that much wiser! this has been something thats been buggin' me for a bit..an it won't matter too much; as soon as this lil guy is turbo'd i'll be obsessed with the whistle and the adrenaline rush from blowin' everyone's doors off :D

thanks again!
