Newer as in replacing EEC-IV with EEC-V is a no, IV is a 60 pin computer, V is a 104 pin computer so obviously the connector and wiring won't match.
And EEC-V also requires a few more sensors to operate properly.
You could swap entire wiring harness and dash, and some do in V8 conversions.
But as far as a plug and play swap, no, newer computer can't be used.
You can use newer EEC-IV to replace older EEC-IV, people did that in 2.9l to 4.0l swap, and also just to replace bad PCM, but you still need to match engine and trans
