So, they finally pulled the old motor out of my B2, guess what they found!

how the **** does this keep happening? this happened to the first flywheel and it was replaced not 2k miles ago!

what is that heat-blueing around that inner rip-hole?

That heat bluing is probably from the engine still trying to turn the trans or the trans still trying to turn and things rubbing there where it broke. That'd be my guess anyway.

before you bolt anything else on there throw a runout gage on the end of the crank, and any other rotating surface.

buddies explorer likes to rip apart flywheels like that aswell, we havent figured it out yet

I went through about 4 of them in 3 year's time...I found out what the problem was...it was my driving habits, taking off fast and running the transmission hard ( like at WOT or trying to "chirp gears") is what takes a toll on the flexplate. To my knowledge there isn't an HD or stronger aftermarket flexplate for these engines, not that I have found anyways. One of the many reasons I went V8 swap instead of TT'ing my 4.0L. When you change the flexplate make sure the spacer is not damaged in any way or it will cause the replacement to fail as well

lol, does sound like how he did it aswell, drives with the foot to the floor

this seems like something that needs aftermarket support since its a common problem apparently

Super Six Motorsports is the only company I know of that has aftermarket for the 4.0L world and I don't know if they have any HD flexplates, I haven't been to their site in a while...

A quick search of their site and all I could find was 4.0 blocks, pistons, connecting rods, heads, cams, and head studs.

No flywheels for the 4.0. =(

the engine revved up to about 9k rpm and the entire rotating assembly started to come apart after the flywheel let go, that's probably where the heat-bluing came from.

anyway, i'm getting a new engine for it anyway, so there's that.

still, i don't understand how my driving habits could break it in under 2k miles, i got about 25k out of the last one since I'd bought the truck.

My guess would be something else was also damaged and needed to be replaced, and because it wasn't it just chewed through the new one...

stop neutral dropping and trying to go from drive to reverse with out stopping. I used to neutral drop the 401 in my 73 waggy and go from drive to reverse like the general lee in a dukes episode ....... I went through 2 flex plates a month.

Yeah, I guess he put it about right...

If you want to drive like you own a race car, buy a race car, not a 4000 pound explorer...

edit - 3600 pound b2....
