Gt-12

I have no problem getting it for you. Having it survive till the end is another challenge alltogether

yes,yes...they do tend to have a short life span, don't they:icon_rofl:

Alcohol and a good build...once they serve the cake I'll be in heaven

just as long as you haven't dragged the whole male half of the wedding party away to look at car pics.....that tends to get the wimmins a little miffed.

She's already quite miffed about me not being the dancing type. Oh well. I is what I is.

Topher, I'll take a rum and coke while you're at it:D

Looks good Tom, I'm really surprised at the speed this rig is moving along at!

thanks...scratching my head over the steering right now.i need a steering rack that has less than three dimentions to make it fit.two would be ok,one would be better.

Steering with a singularity, now that would be an interesting feat.

it would:D

wheres stephen hawking when you need him.

anyway,i was left with two choices, since mr hawking isn't chiming in...

this is the bmw rack.power steering is nice, but it's bulky and i don't think i have room for a pump anyway.

gt6005-12.jpg

this is the original gt6 rack....no power, but much slimmer.i think this is as close to one dimention as i'm going to get.

the next problem is that i cant put it above the frame, the engine is in the way.i cant put it under the frame,it goes against the rules....and would drag on the ground.

gt6007-5.jpg

the plan is to cut a 2'' hole through the frame rail and sleeve it with a piece of tube-the tie rod can pass through it.
the wire is in line with where the tie rod needs to go,so the hole will be drilled directly under it.

this photo is taken from the left front looking toward the right side frame rail under the motor....this is how much room i have for the rack.

the hole drilled,sleeved,and rack placed.

gt6010-4.jpg

looking underneath from the other side, right to left.this shows another problem i would have had using the bmw rack-the steering input is further from center,so with the rack centered on the frame, the input would be into the left frame rail.with the gt6 rack,it is in a good position.now to make some brackets, and thread the tie rods to accept the tie rod ends.

that's a lot of reading in one shot.....i look back every now and then to see what i've done, lose track of the beginning when focussing on the 'problem of the day'.

i enjoy reading. its alot of progress in a short time thats for sure

seems my a.d.d. has been replaced with obsessive compulsive on this project.i can't seem to concentrate on anything else.

i tore down the rack to clean it up,and found the rack gear was bent.a bit of press work, and it was good again.i'm now setting up the brackets to bolt it to the frame.

i'm also checking out how it will look while doing wheelies.....

actually,it was hard fitting up the steering with the frame 3'' off the ground.....this way i can get to the underside.
