Yes I understand that. I live in the middle of nowhere. Cars should be a rural thing and probably eliminated or greatly reduced in cities.

I don't know enough about city life to speak about the majority of them. I do know that car ownership is less of a thing in New York City due to the expense. Especially since it has such an extensive mass transit network. Car ownership is less of a priority and at least when it comes to New Yorkers, thank God. Horrible drivers.

With my experience in Europe. Most towns and cities are so old, they were built with foot traffic and horse and carriage in mind. Small vehicles make absolute sense there for a multitude of reasons. The only place I was able to use mass transit to get to and from work was in Hungary, because we were operating out of the old international airport. Elsewhere, it wasn't available since we were working on European military bases or we weren't allowed off base anyway.

The point is that cars are not "freedom" like we have been led to believe by car companies, they are just an expensive burden.

Lol wat?

I probably wear a tin foil hat that's thicker than most... but the idea that we've been brainwashed by 'big-auto' is one of the most laughable ideas I've ever heard.

The costs of owning a vehicle aren't a burden...

Needing to walk through a blizzard on your way to the closest bus stop (which is a half mile away) is a burden.

Always getting asked by drug addicts for change or cigarettes while you wait for the bus
..in the blizzard.. is a burden.

Seeing people using drugs in the back of the bus.. while your sitting behind someone who's coughing sounds like they don't have long to live.. and neither will you if you catch what they have.. is a burden.

The half mile walk from the bus stop to the grocery store.. in the blizzard.. isn't quite as bad as the walk BACK to the bus with bags full of groceries.. but its still a burden.

Literally everything about public transport is a disgusting burden. I've been there, I've done that.

big auto propaganda:
We would have been much better off to build national highspeed rail rather than the interstate highway system.

The point is that cars are not "freedom" like we have been led to believe by car companies, they are just an expensive burden. Yes, people should be able to own vehicles if they want but our country is set up to be car centric. Public transportation and bikes should be standard, cars optional.

I vehemently disagree with the point(s) of the video.

freedom is me checking the satellite data and spontaneously driving over 300 miles to Mackinaw City to view the northern lights.
freedom is me wanting a pizza 40 miles west of here in Wauseon Ohio, and driving there. it's my favorite Pizza Hut.
freedom is me calling my daughter in Columbus and meeting her for dinner in 3 hours, and coming home when I want to.
freedom is me seeing a listing for a manual 4x4 tranny in central Ohio and driving there to get it. 2 weeks ago.
freedom is me driving around the Irish Hills area of Michigan whenever I want to. I love U.S. 12
freedom is me driving all over Michigan viewing fall colors.
freedom is me driving to South Bend Indiana and buying tires at The Tire Rack. twice so far.
freedom is me chasing thunderstorms, anytime, anywhere.
freedom is me driving the wife around in a blizzard showing her places and conditions I routinely encountered for work.
freedom is me driving 90 miles to Jegs instead of getting parts delivered. central Ohio is fantastic for back road cruising.

all the while I'm paying for someone to ride a bus at a reduced rate.
the least they could do is pay for the damn bus/train themself.

This is where 15 minute cities shine. The whole point is for EVERYTHING to be within a 15 minute walk. I don't live in a 15 minute city. I live in a small town of 3,000 people. Just the same:
  • The grocery store is two blocks away. I can get every food item I need.
    • They deliver, $2.00 for delivery.
  • The post office is four blocks away.
    • If a package is too big to carry home, I have a wagon
  • Home Hardware is also two blocks away. From there I can buy almost anything I need for my house, including water softener salt.
    • Again, if something is too big to carry home, I take the wagon.
  • I can also walk to
    • restaurants
    • a small department store
    • a dollar store
    • the town office
    • the newspaper
    • A gas station (gas for the snowblower and lawn mower
    • our local library
    • An electronics store
    • DMV office (although we don't call it the DMV here)
    • Insurance broker
    • Bank
    • My landlord's business office
    • Churches
    • Drugstores (two of them)
    • Government representative's offices
  • Anything I can't buy in town I can buy on Amazon, or there's usually somebody going to the city that can pick something up for me.
I haven't driven my car in two years. I haven't needed to. What I have in my town is what a 15 minute city is like, except that the 15 minute city is divided into districts. Conspiracy theorists claim that you're not allowed to leave your district, but I highly doubt that's the case.

Seemed like a three point video, should have been 3 to 5min
smaller vehicles burn less fuel
larger vehicles burn more fuel

Get hit by a smaller vehicle, maybe live
Get hit by a larger vehicle, maybe die

European cities were all built before cars, when you HAD TO walk
American cities were built FOR cars, well except for the "old" part of downtown, lol

4th point maybe
Advertising works, big trucks and SUVs are popular in America, well the ADs say they are :)

Don't think it was a badly made video, just kept repeating the same 3 things over and over
