Hitachi bought IBM's desktop drive division IIRC, a year or two after the deskstar debacle (which happened to me, grr). I've had a few maxtors, no probs.

None of them have failed. I had the "top of the line" seagate fail in 33 days. I bought a WD 1TB to replace it.
