Picked her up today, has a tendency to die at low rpm and idle. The gas pedal is sticky. These issues can be fixed by removing and cleaning the carburetor, correct?

Could there be another issue or any advice on other troubleshooting?

Thanks for your time.

Carburetor linkage may be sticky causing the sticky pedal, the actual accelerator cable may be rusted up inside. Best thing to do is replace that cable if its bad. Check up under the dash as well and make sure there aren't any wires or anything else that's getting hung up in the accelerator linkage and pedal assembly to cause it to feel sticky.

A good carburetor cleaning and adjustments will certainly help as well.

If the throttle only sticks when the engine is running the carb probably needs replaced. If the throttle butterfly shaft wiggles up and down it could be why it wont idle correct. A worn throttle shaft is a direct vacuum leak.

you can get a rebuild kit for that carb at rockauto for under 20 bucks...well worth it....we just did my sons and it really needed it.

If your still considering the Duraspark swap you will need to replace the carb anyway, for now just check for stuck or bent linkage and/or throttle plate, then start planning the Duraspark swap, the tech article here gives you all the part numbers and step by step instructions, I did the swap in my daily driver in a few hours a little over a year ago, has more power with less gas and all the polution crap gets tossed out, its easy and it saves $$$... can go wrong with that.
