Got Me A Bear!

Stew is the best way to go. I dont know about all that frying bs I would just do it just like a regular beef stew. I love turnips but it just dont sound right in a stew.

Mmm Bear Burger.

The stew and jerky was good too. But you have to make sure that the jerky is done up with a temperature of at least 160. Don't want none of that trichinosis.

ill take 2 .. ill pay shipping hahaha

Your still eating that thing? LOL its been months now 0.o

btw that looks really good. I'm with tpking on this one.

Yeah, it's been in the freezer for a while. Since we had two bears, and three deer we've had a lot of meat to eat up. Sent alot of the bear to my brother to be made into breakfast sausage links and patties. I'm not a fan of the links, but the patties make a damn good egg sandwich. We also had him do up some bologna and hotdogs with the venison. It's pretty good.

Only reason why the bear wasn't ate up first thing is because my mother refuses to eat it or cook it.

but shes okay with deer? :icon_confused:

Bear is a lot like pork.

Freezing it for several weeks at below 0 also kills trichinosis.

That bear looks like it's just chillin in the 2nd pic lol

Believe it or not I still have meat. It's good, none of it looks to be freezer burnt. Most of the reason that I still have it is because my mother refuses to eat it.. and since she decides most of the meals in this house I don't have many options as to what I can cook.

The other day I made some soup. It was good, basically I just threw some random FRESH herbs into it. It was VERY flavorful. It had carrots, onions, mushrooms, noodles, etc. Beef broth is a must, bear meat doesn't make it's own broth well. I prefer canned cheap stuff, the bouillon seemed to flavor the meat as well last time I made stew. I tossed some flour (a very small amount) in to thicken it, it looked horrbile (white chunks) until about the fourth hour of cooking it. Then it was nice and mixed in with the broth. I snapped a picture in my five hours of boredom. And yes, that's a giant chicken cookie jar. My kitchens rocking a chicken theme while the rest of the house is western, it looks damn good. :D

The next day I made speedies, soaked them for a couple days in pepper, Worcestershire, and A1 sauce. Those were delicious. I stuck some mushrooms on the skewers with them, it looked nice and sounded like it would be good but they soaked in the charcoal/lighter fluid flavor. Would have been nicer on my electric grill but that doesn't cook as well.

Then I made jerky. Mmmmmm.. I'm eating it right now.

I'm gonna try to get another bear this year as well. The meats delicious, and I still want that half mount I showed on here. I went with a rug for money reasons. Should be done around November/December or later depending on when the guy gets around to it.

We haven't weighed it yet and probably wont, but guessing from the size he's about 210-220 gutted.

It runs in the family too.

My dad got one last week. She weighed 215 gutted. Had about 3 inches of fat on her.

your dad almost look like hes phototshopped into that picture lol

That's because he is.

We didn't have a good picture of him with his bear for the news paper, so I made on up. No one knew the difference. I'll post the two pictures in a second.. his deer (where I got him from) is a little embarrassing. :D
