hi all sometimes i got the fuel gauge working good and then theres days when you hit a bump and the gauge drops to nothing its a 1995 ranger 2.3 5 speed , looking for the diagram from the sending unit right to the dash so i can trace this nasty little nuiscance , i believe there's 4 wires at the top of the tank anyone know which 2 are associated with the fuel gauge ?

could be corrosion on the puel pump pigtail, if you can get to it to unplug it i would start there, new pumps usually come with a new pigtail for a reason (reason being is that its a nasty environment on top of the fuel tank and the platic ring on top of the tank has a tendency to hold dirt, leaves, moisture, road salt, and any other elements your truck is exposed to and the conector is supposed to keep all that stuff out, right...)

hi , took the pigtail off the top of the tank it was pretty clean looking on both the tank end and pigtail end but cleaned it some more anyways , any idea's on what the gauge side of the harness color code is ?

i noticed on the top of the sending unit i got a group of 4 wires , i gather 2 must be for the pump and the other 2 are for the gauge? if so what wires are for the gauge ? ? i pulled the sending unit out and it floats no problem so i guess the only other thing is a short lol

Sender wires are Y/W and BK/Y.

The sender should read 145 ohms at Full and 22.5 ohms at Empty.

You have to cycle the key Off, pause, then to Run to get the "new" gage reading when you move the arm (anti-slosh circuit in the instrument panel does that).

Since you have it apart, replace the float anyway (if it is brass and hollow). $8 from Ford. And yes, a short makes it read Empty.

up date : ) found the short it was a little nerve racking but i now have my gauge back ford ordered my float so it will probably be in in a couple of days
thanks boys

just bought a 93 ranger and was wondering where was the short at? my gauge reads empty all the time, have not had a chance to investigate yet.
