I dont know if this is in the right section or not, so sorry if its not, im new.
Anyway I found a 2004 ranger supercab 3L auto with 170000km(105000 miles) on it. I called the guy who was selling it and he said the truck needed new front right wheel bearings, fix license plate light, fix half door because it doesn't open right - said looked like someone had forced it shut and never been used much, wipers dont work properly and the parking brake doesn't go tight when its in use. Other than that everything is in good shape. He wants $5000. I figure i can fix this stuff myself because i have the resources. The only thing im worried about is the wipers and the wheel bearings because ive never worked on a ranger and dont know what to expect. Anyone think this is worth it?

I think its worth it, but I also think you may be able to work the price down just a tad. The wipers should be a breeze once you get it apart. Wheel bearings, not too bad. My 97 needed a new right front also, and I did it when I was 16.

well the guy actually wants 4500 but with sales tax it will be $5000 out the door and the guy said the price was wrong but he would take 4500 if i did the cert myself. Id still try and talk him down a though just to see what i could get if for.

I wouldn't buy it. I bought my '99 4x4 4 door with only 46,000 miles on it for $4,500. I looked for a month until I found this, there's going to be better deals out there just gotta be patient

wheel bearings for that generation of truck are spendy (nearly $200 usually). so thats something to consider.

everything else sounds pretty minor and/or can wait until later when money comes in. doesnt sound like too bad of a deal to me.

Thanks for the feedback guys, ill keep it in mind. I've been looking for a while and missed a few good deals, just dont want to miss another.

tell him $4000 and walk off if he says no .. he will call ya :)

I can buy that truck here in East Texas for $3500. It sounds high and not well maintained. I'd argue for patience as did 88Range
