Snake, that's what treaties are for. Except the current administration thinks they are all useless. Until the Head F***up blew it, several international treaties had been successful for many decades. Such as the Geneva Conventions and the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Do you really mean to say we should just let the climate change and deal with the consequences, no matter how bad they might be? Seems MASSIVELY shortsighted to me, especially since you don't even seem to want to know what the consequences are. Would YOU be willing to give up your food? Didn't think so.

You can argue about the effectiveness of particular solutions, but to extrapolate that to say there aren't any solutions is not at all justified.

The climate has changed before, both warmer and colder, before people and SUV's were even here. It will change whether we are here or not.
I don't think there is even any point in averaging the temperature for a period of less than 100 years. Less than that and you're within the margin of error for weather, sunspots, El Nino, etc.

Variability can be measured, and 30 years is the conventional figure. Except that period has rather inconvenient satellite data that can be used to back up the argument that there really is a problem. The first weather satellite (NIMBUS-1) was launched in 1964, and the entire NIMBUS program was finished 30 years ago. All earlier direct weather observations were biased in position. Such as cities and along major (mainly northern hemisphere) shipping routes.

The climate has and will change again. But there is a big difference between natural variability and the observed change. No natural variability in global climate occurs this quickly, short of mass-extinction events.

Wildfires are also natural occurrences, but does that mean we shouldn't do anything about them? The logic for this point of view escapes me.

The sunspot cycle is 11 years. The ENSO cycle is faster than that, just a few years these days (and that it has accelerated substantially is part of the evidence). Can you back up your assertion that 30 years is insufficient, or are you just trying to exclude data that disagrees with you?

The difference here is that wildfires are real and can be put out. The damage is immediate and horrific. Global warming could be a farce and a money grab and there may not be a damn thing we can do about it realistically.

Gas is over $3 a gallon and I don't see anyone parking it. In fact seems like traffic gets worse everyday right in the middle of the "recession" (apparently so bad that it requires a stimulus package).

Though no single event can be pinned on climate change, don't you think the southeast's recent droughts and wildfires are a bit, well, unsual? Do you remember when El Nino/Southern Oscillation first showed up in the 70s? The Ecuadorans have been fishing in those waters for centuries; this is not an old effect that was recently discovered. It's new.

As far as Al Gore, he is an idiot that wants to make a name for himself.
The Government will tell you what they want you to know (read that sentence carefully, it means exactly what it says). Area 51 is considered "Classified" and you will never know what is there, Like Global Warming, you can make up theories about it. I was a soldier for the U.S. Army, there are things I can not talk about to this day, but you never heard of and if I did , does that mean it is B.S.? If G.W. brings us Alternative fuels and such,that is cheaper and better, then I guess G.W. is a good thing

I don't want to disprove God or whatever belief structure you may put your faith in. I just want to be respected that I don't believe in God and there's nothing wrong with that. I just don't like being preached to and told how things are. Everyone has a right to believe what they want, which makes debates like this very difficult to resolve.

Hey, at the end, if I'm wrong about God, so be it. He has a lot to explain to me about the way my life has gone so far

Believe whatever campfire stories you want, but when it makes you avoid doing things about problems, it crosses the line. THAT is one way religion can be harmful. Calling climate change "God's will" is a cop-out. If you really believe the Bible, Genesis commands you to care for His creation.

That is the attitude that will expedite the end of man. We can't just say screw future generations we have to try to give them a world that is at least as good as when we found it.
