i believe we've all heard of the infamous name Glasspacks... but ive never herd them in person. I want some thing for my 2.9 '87. And i found different kinds of glass packs. Like CherryBomb?? for 20bucks are they that good? And btw how loud are they, is it ridiculous and ecos for miles? Thnks alot in adv.

They sound ok, with a cats and a tailpipe they arent very loud. I prefer a chambered muffler like a flowmaster 40 series, deeper sounding.

Honestly glasspacks usually rob you of power, a lot of glasspacks are built so that the interior is a smaller diameter then your tail pipe size and restricts flow. The only decent glasspacks I've seen are the dynomax race mufflers, or the brand new glass packs Cherry bomb has recently come back out with. Look at CherryBombs website. I have the CherryBomb Extremes on my 79 F150 true duals with the mufflers mounted near the rear axle, and they are very loud and still very deep with no cackle on deceleration.

-i use a small (24") chambered straight "bullet" type the muffler shops sells on my daily driver w/2.9 5 sp. single exit, 2.5" exhaust and it sounds great. even idleing, most people think its a small v8. sounds good on down shifts and running up thru the gears, and doenst have a bad drone at speed. what else could you ask for??

My Thrushes were the same diameter inside as out (or very close to it). They also had no louvers to disrupt flow. With the stock cats it has a very nice deep tone.

I put true duals with the two thrush glasspacks on my F-150, aside from sounding great it also doesn't downshift as much on hills. I am pretty sure I gained some power with them, but then my stock muffler was about the size of a 30 gallon barrel...

I put a heartthrob dual catback with two glasspack tips. I believe the diameter of the channel is as big as the leading pipe 2.5". The overall tip diameter (OD) is 3.5". They sound great to me for a 4.0 V6. Its not like my 302ci 75 granada (anyone remember them?) was with nothing but a straightpipe and a thrush, but it does sound nice. Pretty deep tone that really roars when you punch it. It definitely feels stronger than before but I can't really quantify. I doubt they have taken any HPs away. I've had them on for a year and they have held up very well for a relatively inexpensive system. The main reason I chose this system was because they would fit around my hitch and spare tire and after a year I'm very glad I did.

Got Thrush Glasspacks-sounds badass.
Get em'.
Sounds like a plane going down (that's how loud they are)

wow...what?

if youve ever looked through a glasspack, you'll see thats its just a perforated tube (the same size as its inlet and outlet), surrounded by a shell with fiberglass packing between the tube and shell (hence, glass-pack). they are the absolutely lowest restriction muffler in existence. the only way the glasspack would have a smaller diameter pipe then the rest of your exhaust is if you purposely installed a too-small glasspack.

i have a 93 2.3L with a single cherry bomb and stock cat. i ran the exhaust out the middle. at idle it has a nice rumble at about 900rpm. it doesnt sound to ricey but for 20 bucks it is a heck of a deal.:icon_thumby:

so then the cherrybomb glasspack's (the red one) are worthless?

My Thrush glasspack is red and big (BigRed).

Just get thrush glasspacks. Trust me.
My truck sounds like a WWI plane.
I want to call my truck "the red baron" but I don't know.

Here is some good ones from Jegs (I think they are stainless steel or something- that is why they are $101), but mine were around $21 bucks (got em from Advance, but Jegs sells the $21 one)

I got my Glass pacs from Summit racing I think for a little over $20 ea. Im running 2 one in back of the other on my 89 2.9 4x4 Ranger I went full 3" I cut out the stock cat right behind the pre cat at the y pipe wear the pipe is 3" dia.took a screw driver and gutted the pre cat then welded in the first muffler added a short pice of 3" pipe may 6" long then welded in the 2nd Muffler from their I had a local muffler shop bend me a 3" tail pipe to exit in the stock location the system sounds awsome nice deep sound nothing ricie about it very mello rumble at hiway speeds . I also felt a nice little seat of the pants improvement with the 3" exhaust all for less the $200 granted I did save some money by welding in the mufflers myself
