I have wanted this for a long time.... something that I don't want to do myself though, I want a guarantee, and for it to look great.

got quotes from places around town (these are all in omaha, ne)
Viking Glass - $125, extra $20 for front strip
Mr. Tint - $159, extra $25 for front strip
Auto Boss - $150
Inphase Car Audio - $140
Auto Sound and More - $125, extra $25 for front strip
Auto Glass Tinting Inc - $140
The Tint Shop - $120, more if darker
Hotrod - $
Auto Tint Specialists - $110, extra $20 for strip

they all seem pretty reasonable to me, i just need to get some reviews online to see who's the best i guess! i'll update everything here with some pictures probably! hope to get this done in the next 2 weeks

$50-60 per window seems about right. i've had it done once, and done it myself once. will be doing my ranger soon (i hope) and i think i'll do it myself again. not that hard to do and the results are plenty good enough for a dd/working truck.

ask what film they are using, if its johnson film it wont really fade but i will develope a purple hugh to it and look a bit off. go look at some of the cheaper ricers in the day light and you will know what i mean. anything besides jonson will last and stay dark with out the color change

Go with LLumar films..I am a dealer in Georgia. LLumar offers a Lifetime warranty against fading, bubbling peeling...ect. The prices are good...But cheap is never good........Remember you pay for what you get.

yeah i just don't have the patience, and would rather have a reliable job done... but thx!

thx for the info!

anybody got examples of various tint levels? i want to go pretty dark, but maybe not as dark as state legal

"The front side windows to luminous reflectance of more than 35% or has light transmission of less than 35%.

The rear or back windows to a luminous reflectance of more than 35% or has light transmission of less than 20%."

taken directly from my state's website.... would it look weird to get my rear window a darker shade? also, is the rear window considered a "rear or back window"? i just don't know because it's on a truck. i don't think i really want any luminous quality on my tint, just the tint itself.

I had 3M color safe installed just over a month ago in my 99', it was $60 per front window installed. Lifetime warranty and looks killer.

Your rear window is the same as on any other vehicle. It can go down to the 20%. I have 20% on all the windows in my grand prix, and while it looks great, it is a pain in the ass at night (especially when it rains) to see anything. I would say go 35% all around and it should be good.

I did 30% all the way around..including the windshield..Thats why it looks so dark. I would stick to 35% if thats the legal limit.....Darks sounds good and looks good but the fines can get crazy...which vary from state to state...in Florida they charge so much per % under the legal limit.

we can only have a 5 inch strip on our windshield, and i like it that way anyway i guess.
beautiful truck btw, do you really have a 5.0 in there or does that little emblem give you 20 more hp?

so is 35% hard to see out of in the rainy dark too? I don't want to have problems seeing...

In Ga u can only legally have 6 inches on the Windshield...I just did the whole thing because it keeps the heat out and protects the interior....its alot lighter looking in person and its hard to tell it tinted. 35% should give you zero issues whether its Raining or Dark. Oh and yes it really has the 5.0 in it.....only a retard in my opinion would stick a 5.0 badge on a 4 or 6 cyclinder.Click on my links for my build thread if interested.

Agreed. That was used when I had my 2000 Passport and now my 2004 Mazda6. Mazda shows no signs of turning purple after 6 years.

Actually, saw my Passport a couple weeks ago. The person who has it now tinted the front 2 windows. When it was mine I only tinted everything behind the driver because that is what was legal in 2000. The front windows have the purple hue and everything behind the driver still looks good.

Is LLumar available for the do it yourselfer to buy?

i wasn't really doubting you, just asking. you'd be surprised how many emblems i've seen in my city that obviously were just put on.... turbo, super, sport, you can tell when they are a bright shiny chrome on a beat to death car or truck lol... or when you're misfiring and your whole truck rattles and yet you've got a turbo emblem on there lol.. like even if you had a turbo, it's complete crap, so good job!

and i wish i had the mechanical knowledge, money, time, and dedication to be interested in that... i SO wish i had it lol. i would love that so much.

i like the look of that engine bay though, it all looks very planned out.

The only way to get it if your not a dealer is off Ebay. I see it on there all the time. Alot of dealers will sell it to you though but they want to sell a roll not a few feet usually.

Yeah I know I see alot people around here doing the same with the badges..I have seen a few v6 Mustangs with Cobra emblems! I dont have alot of mechanical knowledge like you may think...I enlisted a few friends to help me along the way to get thru it. I just did a little work to it here and there when I had extra money and a year and a half later I was done. Ya I had alot of down time to stare at it and think about it and paint things to make the engine compartment the way I wanted it.
