I've had my vehicle for a month now; I know it needs the cam sensor (P0341) and maybe the synchro changed, and a full maintenance (I've only done oil/filter and rad flush so far); while I'm working up the nerve to tackle the CPS, I've a few queries for the experienced drivers...

I'm getting about 450-500km/tank suburban (with a bit of city and a bit of highway), driving very economically (but not fanatically); does that sound about right ? What can I do (low to moderate price and/or bother) to better that figure and keep the engine happy, and what should I watch out for ? Forums mention swapping out the pulleys which sounds doable though I wonder why stock isn't optimum.

It can be pretty grumpy sounding for awhile after it's started; the rpm's dip when I try to gently accelerate like I'm flooding it: I have to leadfoot it for awhile. While it purrs real nice once it's warm, and I realize this is a 15 year old engine, what could I do to have it act (and be) like new in this regard ?

Thanks :icon_welder:

Anybody ?

Until it warms up, trying to gently accelerate it acts like I'm flooding it.

Tips for non-destructive fuel economy increase ?

NT, I'd change the cam sensor and synchro first. Since you
have a code, it's probably throwing the fuel injector timing off
and giving poor MPG. It should run much better with a new
synchro, not to mention lessening the chances of a catastrophic
engine failure.......:shok:

I'm new to Rangers too, but guessing the way to better MPG
is less restriction in the intake and exhaust.
Thinking about a cold air intake, free flowing cat-back exhaust,
and maybe headers as future mods.

and above all else be gentle on the go pedal that will really help out with mpg but that already should be understood
