best bet is to get your max dimensions and get someone to build you a box to your specs for a certain sub....pick out your sub first as you need to build the box to the specs of the sub. Hit me up by PM you and ill help you out on plans...i kno a couple peps or just sign up over on Caraudio.com/forum ....you will learn TONS on there.

i've got everything already planned out and bought, as seen on the first post.

the manufacturer recommends .8cf for sealed and .8cf for ported, yes the same air space.

What are your dash speakers?

crap... used to have them saved as a favorite before my computer crashed....

i'm not sure there is any way of me finding out unless i take them out, and it was way too much work to put them in...

is there a user to the name of like rjppunk or something similar? he MIGHT have been the one to suggest my speakers... let me look on all my old threads and see if i can find the brand... i am decently happy with them.

i think i posted a like excursion video on them on this thread not too long ago...

they are nice for how cheap they were, but make sure you don't make the newb mistake i did and think that they came in pairs.... so then you have to pay two shipping fees..

oh well. they get loud enough by themselves to where i can barely hear someone sitting in the passenger seat... however in general i have to choose loudness or bass hitting.

i mean i just have all of my hi/low/med set at 0... but depending on the volume level and the song, it can handle more. i am pleased though. would buy again if i had a low budget, but i think there are better 4" speakers out there i'm sure.

surprisingly, on songs with highs, they can actually hurt my ears, and there is no tweeter... so that's impressive to me.

and i can feel the bass in my steering wheel and pedals (not enough to say so, but still some) depending on the song.

Im not going all out with my stereo, and Im not going to use an amp so Im just looking for some dash speakers that will provide decent sound with a new deck.

Im going with a couple 6x9s in the cab corners behind the seats too.

i used blaupunkt 4'' speakers in my ranger. i barely used them, if you want em, pm me. im not using em right now anyway

I'm still really stuck as to if I should go sealed or ported.... I like to show off (who doesn't?) so rap music is a must.... but i listen to some regular pop and rock as well too (not too much metal and stuff though)

So I am thinking I will want to go ported... Do I really need to worry that much about the air space that the port tube uses? Also say i am using the specified length of PVC tubing (PVC tube is okay for a port right?), do I just drill a hole to let the tube fit and then seal it with caulking after?

Do I need to worry about how I assemble my box? Like do I need to put the "face" part of the box on last or whatever? I don't want to have to end up having to redo this box! So I am willing to spend extra time making sure I put enough screws in, wood glue between boards, sand alll the wood glue down smooth, silicon sealant the edges and corners so there are no leaks, etc.

Any opinions?

so besides the thread jack (kidding, but kinda serious too lol)
bump...?

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File/Global/Consumer/Manuals/kfc-xw1200f.pdf

Their manual says to have a 3" diameter 14" length tube for the port.

Not quite sure what it means when someone says the port is tuned to xx hz... does that mean how low it can hit? not exactly sure.. anyway, can i just cut a piece of 3" pvc to that length, cut a 3" hole and put silicon sealant on both sides of the hole with the pipe in so that it's sealed around the pipe?

going to use sketchup to do a final design on my box real quick.

can someone verify that the internal volume of this box is .8cf?

if so, i need to measure again, but pretty damn positive this will be my box..

to calculate internal air space use the formula H*W*D and divide the result by1728. But you have to sbtract the thickness of the material you are building it with. If you are using 5/8 you will have right at 1 cubic foot with that design.
