gearhead's build thread

what you have for a axle

HP d30 from an xj
gonna do custom johnny joint long arms
deaver coils
and so on.. dont even have my axle built yet

before you say why a d30: it'll hold 33's for my dd/ww, it's the right width and bolt pattern to match an 8.8.. i see jeeps wheel d30's a lot. and its stronger than that dang ole d28 ttb. (if you weren't gonna ask-- i sorry for the useless info :D)

38in boggers that i wanna run when i get d44 chromoly shafts with the 760x joint

What gears you planning to run?

Id be careful with that setup... Thats asking to pull a few teeth off the ring and pinion...

Looks like its going to be a clean build :icon_thumby:

sounds good, the d30 is a good swap if your running 33's IMO so i agree with ya there

i have thick cut 4.56 gears im gonna run, i would go 5.13 or something but i have a 302 sitting in a demo car and a AOD with the shift linkage flipped and its notched for a np205 which i have also, im hoping by keeping the front open it will stay alive but i think once i get the suspension squared away im gonna buy a high pinion and put 35 spline shafts in and have that up my sleve incase the teeth decide to jump ship lol

38's i'd say you're in 1 ton territory, i've seen it done a lot tho. should work out for ya, depends on how mean you are to the skinny pedal! lol

only one way to find out:3gears: i know where theres a 1979 hp dana 60 if i need it,

why do the coils bow like this, the axle is pretty close to centered and the coils look fine when the truck is level, ill take it in for a alignment next week and they can make it spot on (trac bar is adjustable)

im running the stock pitman arm and i need one that has a little less drop to bring my drag link up a little higher so it matches my trac bar, where can i find one that would bolt up? does and 2WD ranger have a pitman arm with a little less drop? also wonder what is the best way to balance 38's bb's, air soft bb's, or ive even heard of antifreze or buy bags of equal

air soft works great usually..

and the pitman.... crap, what truck fits that has the almost flat one... i can't remember. man i'm getting forgetful in my rip ole age of 20 lol

Any TTB fullsize truck, they all run the same box as the ranger. I got mine from a late 80's F150.
