Gear ration

im not trying to go fast just create less stress on my motor. and not even a lot just a little so I didn't know if that little bit would make much difference. im going up to 33's here soon I have 31's on it now. I just want to lower my rpms is all. Im a volunteer firefighter I know how stupid teenagers are. but this is no race truck haha its a nice clean diesel swap and its like 45mpg efficient and I want to create a little less stress.

OK... we need more info on this motor swap....post up a build thread maybe? :icon_thumby:

The M5OD is a much stronger transmission than the FM146. If you're using a RBV tranny, I'd swap back to the M5OD just for this reason alone (and the 4.0L version does have noticeably taller 1st, 2nd, & 3rd ratios than any trans made for any other engine).

Factory axle ratios (8.8" & D35) are 3.27, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 (though 4.10 8.8s and TTB D35s were never paired together in the same truck).

A '91 will also have a Dana35 up front regardless of engine (the hybrids didn't start until '93-'97 trucks).

ok so here's what I came up with. On the rear axle theirs the numbers
5329A
T3-88 1C25
I'll bet that the bottom line is "3 73 88 1C25". (3.73 ratio) The first part of the digits are probably hiding under the bolt head (and/or were mangled by it).

thank you, I have a build thread in diesel bombers already. im going to look into what it cost to completely overhaul my M50D

not really sure where to get a kit.... im going to need gears too

For the record, I only go that fast on certain roads that its safe to do so. Ones I am unfamiliar with, or roads I know that are bad I go slower.

I'm by no means a new or uneducated driver. I've been driving for many years (a few illegally, no license, but it's the country and farms, we all do it) I know my limits, and I know my trucks limits. I do not exceed those limits. Hence why I have never once been in an accident. I used to be stupid but I learned quick the trucks limits. So I know what it can and can't do. I also know what I can and can't do.

Sorry for taking this so off topic. My main point I was trying to make is 65 is by no means "fast" and the guy saying rangers have no need to go that fast is just plain silly.
