Hey, folks.
Bought a ’92 Ranger (yeah, I know - everyone here knows that at this point!).
Anyway, one of the first days that I had it, I noticed that the air intake hose going from the air cleaner box to the upper air intake plenum had some problems. The fan had worn a spot through on the bottom and there was a foam rubbery “gasket” inside the air hose, where it connects to the upper air plenum. The “gasket” was old and crappy, so I just tossed it, figuring that I’d replace the whole intake air hose.
That was before I found out they’re $160 bones (for a piece of PLASTIC hose!).
That wasn’t happening, so I farm fixed the hole in the bottom by wrapping some black electricians tape around it a bunch of times. Unfortunately, the “gasket” mentioned above is at the landfill, so I tried to find another online. No such luck. So I’ve been trying to think of something else that I can use in it’s place. Thought about weatherstripping, but I want to make sure it’s something that won’t break down and get sucked into the engine.
Twenty-some years ago, I remember finding this good quality dense, spongy rubber material that was 2-3” wide, came in a roll, and had an adhesive backing. I used it to line my metal toolbox (which was later stolen along with my tools, some of with were my grandfather’s - thieves f’ing suck). I’ve asked around at work and the local parts stores, but all I get are blank looks. Anyone know what this product might have been or have another idea? Or, even better, know where I can find the correct seal without blowing the budget on the hose?
Much appreciated.
