I had one with a bad seal that pissed all it's fluid overboard in about 250miles.
I KNEW it was leaking, but that didn't mean it was easy to deal with.
The T-case down, the tailshaft off, a new Federal-Mogul #1981 seal
and put it all back together....
Since then I only "discover" if my seal was/is bad when I drop the T-case.
by creating that drain squiggle ford only provided an additional failure mode
The early manual transmissions and the automatics don't have a seal!
So they NEED the T-case to be sealed to the tailshaft
Why did someone THINK the tailshaft housing void "needed" a drain?
