I have a 1984 ford ranger xlt 4wd but i have no idea how big the gas tank is it says 30 but i dont quite belive that and it looks too big to be a 17 gallon help me out here

I've never seen a 30 gallon stock in a Ranger.

There were a few different sizes available, I want to say that they ranged from 15 to 19 gallons. There was an available auxiliary tank that would hold an additional 13 gallons. You could get a first gen Ranger that would hold about 30 gallons total between the two tanks.

I have a 20 gallon in my 1997 4.0 4x4 SuperCab. my guess is you have a 15 gallon if it is an original equipment tank.

where did you see that it had a 30 gallon tank? even the full size Dodge pickup that my former Father in law owned was only 25 gallons....

Now you might have two tanks that equal 30.. but the back tank I think is only 10 or 12 gallons. Good luck finding any parts for that rear tank if that is the case. So if you have two fuel doors and a switch on the dash to go between the two, that may be the case.

Longbed is 17, if the tank says 30 it could be custom or aftermarket.

30 US gal is the maximum combined for a regular cab long bed (RCLB) with the optional rear tank.

1st gen Rangers gas tanks:
Front:
RCSB - 15.2 USgal
RCLB - 17.0 US gal
SCSB - 14.5 US gal
Rear: (optional)
Any - 13.0 US gal

I don’t think I have a second tank that’ll be cool to have one
If you don't have two filler doors, you don't have two tanks unless the PO changed something. .

The original second tank was made of steel and due to it's location, caught all crap flung up by the tires. So, unless you can find a southern vehicle with one, they are all rusted out and replacements are unobtainable. A few have used a Bronco II tank, which is bigger (23 gallons - I think). The potential issue with them is that they hang below the frame and could get damaged. Then there is the making a hole for the second filler neck, building a support structure for the tank after removing the spare tire carrier, and rigging up the electric, valving, and fuel lines. Not impossible but it would take some doing.

I wouldn't mind doing this but I would need to find a home for the spare. Probably along the lines of what Uncle Gump did for his spare. That I would need to rig up some kind of protective skid plate for the tank.

Bronco II tank is indeed 23 gallons.

I know a guy with a welder when you want to.
