Gaging interest in resurrecting the Shiftster

It's a cost issue mostly. For what a bulk sand cast supplier can build aluminum knobs for vs what my cnc guy can turn out, it's possible that its a rather large difference. I'm going to run the numbers both ways and see what the margin looks like. Bulk supplier I located yesterday is rather low cost, but foreign made which I do not like or want. However, if an American made cnc knob is going to add $50 to the final price... 😔

As of now the only parts I will have to have turned out are the plate with index holes, the 4wd control adapter shaft, and maybe the knob. The rest is just assembly stuff and bulk ordered parts.

I don't see any way that sand cast could compete with a laser.

It wouldn't be rounded and smooth... but it would have to be leaps and bounds cheaper to produce.

Maybe something like this:

Those are exactly what I need for my lift. Currently just a bunch of different types on there.

McMaster Carr sells that brand as do some other sites. I think they were like $11 USD. I just googled for a 2-3" round knurled knob with a 1/2" hole, as it turns out there are a LOT of options for different sizes.

I was looking at some on alibaba for the ~$4 each range that have no holes drilled. I'm going to talk to my machine shop to see how they want to do it. Trying to minimize cost and if I have to do anything more than assemble parts kits in my garage if I'm being honest. Point isn't to make a huge profit, just to resurrect this thing. Not having 4wd for a few years really sucks, trust me 😅😅

Need a new name for it as well. Was going to go with the "OhShift" or "AwShift" unless someone has a better suggestion 🙂
