So I'm looking to buy an FX4 Level II Ranger and I've found two online that I like. There are just a few things I am confused about that I thought maybe somebody knew something about. These are both FX4 Level IIs from 2005. I like the 2005 year because (please correct me if I am wrong) for one thing it was the last year your could get the Level II with cloth bucket seats (my preference) and it was the last year the Ford badge was not in the center of the tailgate (also my preference).

So we come to my main question: why are these center consoles so radically different? On the white truck I am familiar with this style of center console, but the one on the black truck I have not seen before. Mostly I am worried about the veracity of these vehicles. Also, in 2005 did they offer leather seats as well as cloth in the Ranger?

Thanks for any info you guys can give me and have a good weekend

Haha, love it. I'm mostly wondering if the black one is custom consoled from some car or if Ford just did a funky full length console in the FXII as an option or something

I believe the black one had the full length center console that came with the Pioneer sound option?

The black one looks like it is in better shape and has the better console. The white one looks like a reg FX4 console maybe they just put the "level II" decals on it?

the white one has the OE console...black one is aftermarket...thats for sure. And you can tell a level II by its wheels...15" alcoa alloys.

that black console looks like the one a friend has in his f150....i think its a 05 but idk
.....i like the black one

I think this is correct as well. I've see this console in other pics, some of which I believe were Ford press pics

.

The black one is from a Ranger Tremor, I am not sure if it came in an FX4.

The White one is the, IMHO, FX4 Console, the red inserts look like the FX4 patern.

BUT… I thought FX4, Lvl II’s, were only made in 2002 and 2003… the rest are FX4 Off Road !

I just got a 2007 FX4 Off Road Lvl II with cloth seats, love it
Does anyone have a link to a Haynes for the 07

It's really hard to tell "correctly" what is right or wrong with a lot of the Ranger options. They also changed mid year sometimes. I've had a couple of Rangers that were not LII's but had the 16" tires. My 2000 4x4 doesn't have the grab bars on the pillers but my 4x2 does. Met Dasfinc and his 4x4 has the grab bar on just the passenger side. Go figure!!!

Looks like a Tremor console to me, could have been added later, maybe an option, I don't know.

You can put those wheels on any ranger...
True, however it also has the special FX4 chrome front tow hooks. Extremely unlikely that anyone would bother adding those.

For the umpteenth time in the last several years....

The original FX4 came out in 2002, with the Torsen diff, Bilstein shocks, 15" Alcoa wheels, etc. 2002 was also the LAST year for the Off-Road Package (ORP), which was a step down from the FX4 but still got you skid plates, HD shocks (not Bilsteins), and 16" A/T tires. I used to own one.

Now then, in 2003 the old ORP became the FX4 and the 2002 FX4 became the FX4 Level II. As far as I know the only difference between a 2002 ORP and a 2003 FX4 (non-Level II) is that the 2003 FX4 included a limited-slip (non-Torsen) rear in the package. From 1998 to 2002 the limited-slip was optional with the ORP. My 2002 ORP had a limited-slip and it was listed separately on the window sticker.

So basically....
2002 FX4 = 2003-up FX4 Level II
1998-2002 Off-Road Package = 2003-up FX4
