and yes, a 4wd operating in 2wd is worse than a plain 'ol 2wd. usually.

Last time i had a truck out there i chewed the radiator up with the fan, wrapped a wireing harness around the front driveshaft, and had to call a wrecker to get home.

Good times.
 
I really loved having 4wd when I had them. But like others said, I'd find reasons to go offroad. I'd purposely try to get stuck in 2wd then use 4wd to get me out.

There was one time when it snowed a lot (which in Nashville is rare) and I needed to get somewhere. It was great on the hills around here. Sadly, it wasn't worth a damn when I was sliding down the other side of the hill. :)

LOL. I've been spoiled by the AWD system on my Sport Trac. Almost never need 4x4 but when you do it's just a punch of the button away and then you have a choice of high or low range. Come to think of it, I may just start looking for another one a couple of years newer with lower mileage instead of waiting for the four banger Ranger.
 
Both my expeditions had 2hi, A4WD, 4hi, and 4 low.

Very rarely used the auto option, always felt like it was hard on shit, maybe it wasnt, i dont know.

I got BFG A/Ts on both my 250s, radial long trail BFs on my wifes 2wd escape, the only one i got stuck was my 97, trying to retrieve a car hauler from my buddys soft ass yard. I coulda got out had i hammered it, but he was crying about the ruts.

My 77 has never gotten stuck.
 
I have a ORV park 20 min from my house, so yes, 4wd gets me in trouble.

No ORV parks to be had anywhere around me.

I have thought about tracking down a newer FX4LVII just for that reason actually. Coupled with the live front axle IMO it it is Fords most reliable 4x4 setup yet.

My 77 has never gotten stuck.

Good luck finding one. They offered that setup for what - 3 years?

Pish, I haven't even seen a Level II period in forever on craigslist.

Might not be able to dodge the problematic 4.0's and still snag a manual t-case either, I haven't really checked into it that hard.

I beat on that poor old truck enough the last 5 or 6 years. As soon as rusty #2 gets rockin and rollin good, the old 77s gonna get to spend some time in the retirement home while i start sourcing clean southern body parts :)

Local dealer had a perfect Sonic blue '02 a few years ago. Twin stick, perfect shape like 50k miles on it. They wanted $20k for it. It wasn't there long, I haven't seen it since so I have no idea where it ended up.

How about two years. (02 and 03)

Scratch that then, I don't want to deal with the timing chains on a 4.0...

Weird they didn't run it longer than they did, my dad's '05 F-150 has a manual t-case. I thought they would have gone longer but I guess I did grab the levers for my '85 out of an '03.

4 banger turbo with 400+ft lbs tq.
 
Skidplates are unneeded excess weight for me. What else is there ? Hill descent control ? OK. Super shiny glittery instrument panel with cheesy virtual-gauges ? Locking diff can be optioned on any model. A sticker on the rear fender panel ? OK.

Ride height...

FX2 F-150’s were more of a street truck compared to the FX4. They sat low, I think the interest here was hoping more for something like the old Edge that sat like a 4x4 but was 2wd.
