Funniest Repair Orders you've seen?

I've got one... I was working at a shop in Yucca Valley. I wrote 'Check Engine Illuminated. Check and advise' as a labor op. Tech comes back to ask 'what does this word mean?' He was pointing at illuminated.

I wouldnt have even responded to his question. I would have crossed "illuminated" out, wrote "lighted up", and handed it back to him. Maybe he would have understood improper english more better. :D

If you want to have fun with them, tell them you need new spark plugs for your diesel truck. Some will try and look it up. If they do try, I ask for someone else lol

Hey everyone been lurking for a while and i just had to reply to this post.

don't laugh about the spark plugs for diesels thing, i've got 2 Macks in the shop that have spark plugs ignition coils wires and the whole nine yards.
yep, they are diesel engines but they have 2 sparkplugs in the bottom of the muffler for DPF regeneration.

not to mention the truck coming next month that has a Cummins ISL with a full ignition system (its a CNG engine)

i've thoroughly enjoyed this thread, in 25 years of spinning wrenches i've seen most of these up close and personal.
but it's still funny as hell to read about it.
and try sending the new guy after a oscillating rectifier shaft adjustment wrench for a 4 12/16" bore. or if he's really new send him after a henway.

about 3 or 4 lbs.

would you believe that the last parts guy i pulled that one on didn't get it for 6 weeks even fter i gave him the punch line??:icon_rofl:

Old International diesels would start on gas and just idle (barely able to move themselves around) until they got warmed up and then you would switch them over to diesel. The John Deere machines could have a small four cylinder gas engine that would run and warm up the coolant and then make a horrific commotion as it whipped over the big diesel (Cats did that too) Never really been around the Cats much but the Deeres are almost comical in person. It sounds like a weed eater trying to crank over a steam engine. :D

So diesels can have spark plugs and you have one you can mess with parts guys that think they know something just the same. :icon_thumby:

C/S noise when braking:

For the record, we didn't do that, he did.

Heheh, took me a while to see it.

My brother had an old jeep wrangler (he could tell you exactly what it was, but I really never gave a damn) that he really beat the hell out of constantly. Four-wheeling at 30 MPH almost daily. Coincidentally, after driving it into 3 feet of mud and water he said his brakes were grinding a little. I told him maybe it's just some dirt in them and that it should get burned off and fo away, but if it doesn't check them. This dumbass drove around with them progressively getting worse for two weeks until the brakes gave out entirely. He had no dirt in there. Come to find, he had worn through the pad almost entirely and wore the rotor down to the ribs. The brakes gave out because the piston on the caliper caught one of the ribs on the rotor and tore the caliper off, ripping the brake line with it.

Also one of the guys at my local Advance Auto is a real PITA. I didn't think these guys worked on commission, but no matter what I try to buy there this freakin' guy will also try to sell me something more. I buy a tail lamp, he tries to sell me electrical grease. I buy a bolt, he tries to sell me anti-sieze. He actually asked me one time "How are you doing on hand cleaner? We have a sale on this stuff, it's really good and it will never be that price again." and continues to pitch it Billy Mayes style to me. How am I doing on hand cleaner? WTF do I keep a stock of it at my house? I go out to the garage and count the shit? "Oh, a couple ounces low, better put it on the list, but only if it's on sale!" I really want to paper cut him with his tiny packets of lubricants and rub hand cleaner in the wounds.

Double post, please delete.

This Internet connection is getting on my nerves...

Had a lady come in last week with a 2012 ford focus towed in. asking Why it stopped running, said she put in diesel because she heard you get more power if you use diesel....

This one is from today...
-96 ranger S/C 3.0 2wd
*Check "noise in rear"
*check "ride height adjustment"
*check "bump inside bed"

My first thought was "WTF...?", then I saw it.
