I have a 86 ranger that i have already done a SAS to. It currently is running half ton chevy 4in leaf springs in the front, with a dana 30 out of a wrangler. I just got a 92 dana 60 to swap in it. The problem i am having is the dana 60 spring pad width is around 4 inch's wider then what i am running now. I could move my leaf springs out to match this, but it just seems like the ranger frame is to narrow to even try. I'm wondering if anyone has done this swap and has some info that may be helpful?

i dont thing any one has ever put a full width axle into a ranger...:icon_rofl: j/k j/k, mines linked so i cant really help with much, but we did a friend of mines with leafs, and we used custom bracket off the side of the frame for the rear shackle, unlike a Toyota the leafs line up under the frame, i think its hard to run leafs like that and get a Dana front axle to fit, due to where the pumpkin is, no room for leafs to run it that way... ill look for pics. jeez, hope that makes sense

i'd just go link-it'll probably be easier in the long run,and has a better approach angle.looks cool too.

I was thinking about linking it. I just have never done one before, and don't really have anyone to help me out. Would you have to fully box the frame? 3-link, or 4-link? Would Bronco Radius arms and coils be better. Its not going to be driven on the street. I plan on running 37's, and its going to be a multipurpose rig. Sand, Rock, and Mud.

Also what is your opinions on the sterling 10.25, sense this is going to be my rear axle

What is your current spring spacing, 36.5"? A 78-79 Dana 60 would be about 4" narrower spacing, at 32.5". Just something to think about...

I believe it is around 31 ish, can't remember what i had them at. The problem would be trying to find a 70's king pin. Plus there not all that cheap.

I've noticed the price of Dana 60's has really dropped in the last two years, along with the price of the trucks they came in.

I still think the only way to reasonably purchase one, is to buy the truck and part it out or junk it.

go find my build thread labeled "My B2" and you will see how I put a 97 D60 in.

i've tried and tried to break one of these, running 44 boggers and 500ish horsepower.....so far, everything else breaks, the 10.25 stays together.

NMB2 thanks. Thats what i was thinking about doing. I just didn't know if it would cause any problems being that far away from the frame rail. But it seems to do fine on your B2.

Also is it better to run shackles at an angle? I always thought they needed to be straight up and down.

Gwaii, i read that your 10.25 is spooled. What company makes them? I've been looking around for one but had no luck.

shackles straight up and down is bad. Yes they need to be angled. at least 90* to the spring.
