8.8 Perches and Misc
finally got some sunny days here in NE Ohio
Took my org 7.5" and new FW 8.8 to a buddies because he has welding stuff.
The 7.5 Compared to the 8.8
I shimmed the pinion on the 7.5 until i got 0 degrees on the perches. Then i measured what the pinion angle was and set up my 8.8 to have the same pinion angle. However, i added 2 degrees due to the large lift i am doing. I made sure that that would allow enough oil to get to the pinion bearing with out foaming. It should be good.
Then i measured the perches and carried those measurements over to the 8.8. I double checked by measuring from the perch to the drum back plate to make sure my axle would be centered.
The Perches are for an early bronco from the bronco graveyard. That gave me the right tube diameter and perch width.
Welding didnt go as smooth this day, but they will hold
My front body mounts have been disfunctional for 2 yrs at least. the Cleveland salt has taken its tol on them plus i used to plow with it. So i am going to cut them off and use some large angle iron i found to replace them. Also the rivots are in the way of my bumper so the new ones will be welded on.

The replacement
Getting these off allowed my bumper to fit where i wanted it. Although i know i will probably hit something have have the corners smash my lights. but rangers/exploders are plenty full in NE ohio junk yards
Trying to keep my arrival angle the best i can
It started to get late, but i started to tear my D44 down a little bit. it needs a good cleaning
Track bar removed
I found some 5.13s on craigslist for it. I wanted 4.88s but 5.13s work. I am picking those up on saturday. He has 9" ones too. might just get those too and build a 9" later. 8.8s are just so much cheaper. Also found 15x10s near by. Waitin on what the backspacing is on those. I have to pick up the front spool i got too. Its coming along....
