Should it take me 25 minutes and the pump kicking off 56 times for me to fill my tank? Filling up my '03 has become a chore and I HATE doing it because it takes F-O-R-FREAKING-E-V-E-R to top off. The pump kicks off every 30 seconds or so no matter what station I'm at, what speed I'm pumping, or how I'm holding the pump. I am not looking forward to the NH winter this year, I might freeze to death before getting my truck filled up each week :bawling: Is this a common problem or something off here? It doesn't look like anything is pinched off anywhere, but the truck is missing the brace on the bed on that side and something else could have been damaged... who knows!

weird my moms 03 doesnt do that.
its something damaged on your truck, check the all the fuel lines, if something is bent, twisted or something like that.
check also the valve that controls the evaporation and fuel fumes.
does the tank releases some knd of pressure when u take out the cap?

My 99 does it too. When you hold the trigger, hold it so it's almost pumping as fast as it can go but not quite. That'll keep you pumping almost at full blast and it won't kick off.

I get that sometimes, i find it is the pump more then the truck, try going 3/4 on the pump handle not full and see if that works for you.

I have been getting the same problem lately. Didn't have it before. Could be that I started using a different pump (same station). A way I found to get by it, is to hold the gas handle upwards so the spout is tilted more down in the tube. Also pump slowly, not full throttle.

I also looked at the fill tube. It is semi flat. Its not collapsed. Looks like it was designed like that.

i fuel up 3 rangers and none of them has this issue :icon_confused:
the 03 has the check fuel cap light ON tho...

I would say its something with the fill tube venting system, not letting the air get out enough, making the filler pump think the tank is full.

There isn't any sort of pressure being released when I take the cap off. I find I have to pump as slow as humanly possible to get gas in it, and it will still kick off several times. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem, lol

my stepdads 2007 chevy silverado does that. I had a gas station attendent harassing me about topping off while filling it up. such a nightmare

The filler neck has a check valve that could be stuck. the charcoal canister above the spare tire could have a pluged vent tube or a stuck vent valve. If you disconnect the canister it may set code P0455

My truck does it at some stations when i stick the nosel all the way in, if i pull it out a little it will pump fine

X3

My wife's Daewoo does that and I have to barely squeeze on it to get it to go- forget about full or even half blast (I can't even use the first catch on the stupid deal). I took a look at the pipe system on it and it's only 3/4 inch around! What is happening is the air that is being displaced by the gas is trying to come up the filler neck and is trying to push the gas back up making the handle think the tank is full. I tried to fix her's by putting a vent tube in there so it would have some way of letting the air escape and that didn't work. Next try is a larger fuel fill neck with a different setup on the vent. So yeah, in short I think your vent system is plugged.

I had a dodge that did the same thing. What I would do is start with the nozzle not all the way in but backed out just a little. Then I would slowly pull on the handle to get gas to flow but I would never go to max pumping speed.
