I've got an '87 Ranger with the 2.9L, and the duel fuel tank option installed. The set-up is as follows: pump/pump (1 inside each tank) -> selector valve -> filter bowl -> in-line high pressure pump -> in-line filter -> fuel rail.
I've troubleshot a intermittent fuel problem to the high pressure pump. While checking all the system components, I discovered there wasn't a filter element inside the bowl, between the selector valve and the H/P pump. According to the manual, there were 2 different filter assemblies used in the Rangers with a single tank: either a filter bowl with a replaceable element (original design), or a disposable in-line filter canister (revised design). My truck has both types plumbed in, minus the element. I don't have a blow-up drawing, a parts list, or a description illustrating the duel tank option in my manual.
Was the duel tank option designed to use 2 filters?
