Ok so let me start by saying you guys are the best and I can't thank you enough for the advice I have received on this forum. That being said I am once again confused. So I'm trying to replace the fuel filter on my 98 ranger 3.0 v6 4wd. I pulled my fuel pump relay (number 9) or so I think and the motor just keeps running. How do I purge the pressure?

replace the relay, start the engine and pull a different relay :D

Put the relay back in. And then-

Get a big rag, remove the cap on the fuel rail schrader valve (looks like a tire air valve) and push in on the pin with rag covering it. Some fuel will come out. Wear eye protection and don't do it while smoking.

And don't turn key back on until ready to repressurise the system.

Yes, you pulled the wrong relay, because engine will stop pretty much instantly when fuel pump power is cut.

There is also a Fuel Pump fuse in the engine fuse box, FP fuse, usually 30amp

Turn head, disconnect line. The system will depressurize PDQ.

EDIT: Don't be smoking while you do that.

Thanks guys it was the wrong relay
