The fuel gauge on our 1984 ranger isn't working. Might be the fuel sending gauge but cannot find a replacement anywhere!! What's up with that?

Maybe because its 35 years old, and Ford changed the senders in all their vehicle's gas tanks about 30 years ago
Best bet is to find out if it is the sender and rebuild it, or replace/repair the float if that's the problem
Info here: https://www.fordification.com/tech/fuel-sending-units.htm
Ford changed from the 73-10 type sender to the 10-158 type in 1989
You can still buy the 73-10 type as universal senders, and maybe adapt it for your gas tank
