Fuel reservoir

So I took off my reservoir from my 87 bronco ii because seal was leaking. When I took it apart there was a little blue oring sitting at the bottom . Anyone know if that is somehow part of the reservoir or not? Also on the cap end inside there's a piece of plastic with spring on it that's floating around in the inside of that yellowish plastic piece. Is that supposed to just floating around in there or did something come apart that had that oring on it? Let me know

It has some little valves in it. But I am not sure how they exactly work. I do know overall, the reservoir (sometimes has a filter, sometimes not) is to keep a constant fuel supply to the high pressure fuel pump on the frame rail.

If you ever take the tank down and the sending unit out, you will see these early fuel injected vehicles have no baffles in the tank and have a conventional sending unit, not a "cartridge" like the later sending units. That means the fuel is sloshing around back and forth, and the in tank pump may get fuel, it may not at any given moment. But when it get's fuel, it sends it to and fills the reservoir. The high pressure pump pulls fuel out of the reservoir for the high pressure supply.

I am hoping someone knows what those little valves are for, I have never seen a description on how it works in the factory manual. But I can safely say those pieces are not supposed to be floating around in there.

I didn't think so either. Now I'm not sure if I should still put it back in or wait for someone else to respond who may know a bit more about it. This bronco has been 1 issue after another. Almost everything I ve taken off this thing has been a struggle. Im also pretty sure you can't buy these anymore either. Thanks again for the quick response
 
Went thru that one on one of ours . I’m sure you will get responses . But it is a check valve .The fuel pressure regulator is also but it holds fuel in the injectors .
 
So your saying that blue o-:ring I found In canister is from the check valve from the canister?
 
It’s been many years since I had it apart . That valve you should be able to remove . Then you will see if it came from there . You should not be able to gentle blow thru one of the two fittings both ways . I think there are 2 different size lines . Hope this helps

The valve port is where the low pressure line from tank goes into. If check valve is removable I'm not sure how to get it off without breaking it. I guess what really like to know is if I put it back in as is will it still run correctly? And blowing into that port where valve is there's no resistance at all! Both ways.
 
It will run ok . But hard to start usually . Cycle the key several times to prime the filter before starting . The low pressure pump in the tank keeps it full . That filter is no longer available.

Just cycle the key two or three times , this will fill the filter so the high pressure pump will pick it up . My grandsons still leaks at times .
 
I wonder if I can just put an external check valve inline to fix the hard starts if that's what I ll have for an issue ?

I can confirm (i think) itll be a bitch to start and not run right for a bit after started.

My 86 B2 is missing the resivior, someone replaced it with a regular filter. It cranks forever 3 or 4 intervals then will act like a carbed engine with no choke for about 30seconds. This only occurs after its shut off for a while (overnight), but its very annoying. Priming the pump seems to make zero difference.

I dont know for sure thats whsts causing it, but its about all thats left. I need to dig rusty #1 out of its field home and harvest the one off it

I wasn't going to remove reservoir that's already there just put a check valve just B4 the inlet to the check valve that failed. Your saying that ll make it run like shit for a bit after startup?
 
I would put it back on and cycle the key , listen for the pump to shut off and do this several time . It should run fine after that .
