My 2001 ranger 4.0 SOHC seems to like to empty its tank pretty quick lately.

Now, Im not getting bad mpg (averaging around 15/16 with mostly city driving lately) but after about 50-60 miles from a full fill up, I will be back at half tank.
If I go to fill it (sometimes even when its closer to E than half) it will take anywhere from 8-12 gallons (seems normal but 8 gallons shouldnt fill my tank when its close to E)

My dad recently told me I may have a water logged fuel pump, so I was just wondering more about this issue, orif anyone else had any ideas?

Ive already got all new spark plugs, battery, etc

Almost ALL fuel gauges are close to your description.. It seems the auto makers think we NEED a bit of fuel left in our tanks when the gauge says it is EMPTY!
In my wifes case they are entirely correct! It is a pill we have to digest. Most fuel gauges are simply a HINT as to how much fuel is actually in there.
Get to know yours and you should be Ok.

True, I understand that aspect (went through that ordeal with my 95 wrangler). Though after a fill up in all vehicles Ive owned, i can at least drive ~50 miles before my gas gauge will start moving, mines will start moving at 13 and be at 3/4 tank by 30ish miles...

is this normal for these trucks?

No, that's not normal.

If your float on the sender arm is brass, they tend to perforate and fill with fuel, making it less bouyant. That makes your tank indication lower than actual.

It is literally an $8 part at the dealer. The job is getting to the sender. Most remove the bed for access, or at least tilt it back and remove the ring off the top of the tank.
Helps to pressure wash that area prior, but your choice.

My 2000 gave pretty consistent 340 miles per tank, filling with 18+ gal, often more. THAT'S how much I trusted my gage.

Yours has issues.

Thank you for your input. My dad he would help me replace/fix it; (sliding the bed back, etc) since he has done it a couple times before.

But I will defiantly look into that :icon_cheers:
